A multi-stop journey through Japan

12 nights from £4,365 per person based on 2 sharing

A journey that moves with Japan’s rhythm, this IHG multi-centre itinerary links four places that each show a different side of the country. From Tokyo’s neighbourhood energy to Hakone’s hot spring serenity, Kyoto’s refined pace and Osaka’s late-night buzz, it’s a trip that feels considered rather than rushed, with standout hotels that shape the experience as much as the destinations themselves.
  • Starting in Tokyo, four nights at InterContinental Tokyo set the tone for the trip. The hotel’s calm, spacious rooms are a welcome counterpoint to the city outside, with thoughtful layouts and skyline views that make it easy to reset between days out. Time here is about easing into Tokyo life, from wandering around Hie Shrine in the early morning to evenings spent in Roppongi or Akasaka, where long-standing sushi counters and relaxed izakayas fill up with locals after work.

  • The pace shifts for two nights in Hakone, starting at Hotel Indigo Hakone Gora. Rooms are designed to feel open and grounded, many with private onsen baths fed by the area’s famous hot springs. Days can include the Hakone Ropeway across Owakudani’s steaming landscape, a cruise on Lake Ashi, or simply slowing things down with time by the river.

  • Next comes Kyoto for three nights at Six Senses Kyoto, offering a different way to experience the city. You’ll have access to generous rooms and a spa focused on wellbeing and seasonal rituals. Stepping out brings access to quieter streets around Higashiyama and Gion, where early morning walks feel especially rewarding and small, family-run restaurants serve dishes shaped by what’s fresh that day rather than a set menu.

  • The journey finishes in Osaka with three nights at InterContinental Osaka. High above the city, the rooms are sleek and light-filled, with floor-to-ceiling windows and facilities that feel polished yet functional. Osaka feels friendly straight away. It’s the kind of city where food is taken seriously but without any fuss. Spend time around Dotonbori, grabbing takoyaki from street stalls, or sit at a counter for okonomiyaki while chatting with the chef.
