A solo safari in the heart of Kenya

6 nights from £3,599 per person based on 1 adult

From the wide-open plains of the Great Rift Valley to the famous game lands of the Maasai Mara, this solo Kenya safari is designed for travellers who want to take things at their own pace while sharing the experience with a small group. You’ll travel through Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru before spending unhurried days in the Maasai Mara, combining memorable wildlife encounters with local experiences that add depth to the journey.
  • The journey begins around Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake known for its birdlife and calm, open surroundings. Time here includes a visit to the Elsamere Conservation Centre, where you’ll learn about local conservation efforts and Kenya’s natural history. A boat trip on the lake offers a different perspective, gliding past hippos and fish eagles while the shoreline stretches out around you.

  • From here, the route continues to Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Kenya’s key sanctuaries for rhinos. Game drives focus on the park’s varied terrain, from wooded areas to open grassland, where you may see white and black rhino, Rothschild’s giraffes, and large herds of buffalo. It’s a more contained park than the Mara, which makes wildlife encounters feel close and personal.

  • The final leg takes you to the Maasai Mara, where the landscape opens up and the scale shifts. Full-day and afternoon safaris give you the chance to track lions, elephants, cheetahs, and other wildlife across the plains. A visit to a Maasai village adds context to the region, offering insight into local traditions and everyday life, while evening sundowners in the reserve round off days spent out on game drives.

  • Accommodation is thoughtfully chosen to match each stage of the trip, with hotels and lodges early on and a permanent tented camp in the Maasai Mara. The tents feature comfy beds, en-suite bathrooms, and private outdoor seating, combining comfort with a classic safari feel. Shared dining areas and relaxed communal spaces create an easy-going atmosphere, making the camp feel more like a small retreat than a standard lodge.
