An Alberta adventure for the whole family
13 nights from £3,099 for a family of 4

Your journey begins in Calgary, a lively gateway to the Rockies, where modern city life meets western heritage. A visit to the Calgary Tower gives your family a great introduction to the region, with sweeping views stretching across the skyline and out towards the distant mountains. From here, the trip heads south to the quieter beauty of Waterton Lakes National Park, where calm lakes, mountain trails, and small-town charm set the tone for the adventure ahead.
-
Next comes the dramatic landscape of Drumheller, set within Alberta’s famous Badlands. This unusual terrain feels almost prehistoric, which makes it the perfect setting for a visit to the world-renowned Royal Tyrrell Museum. Here, families can walk through galleries filled with towering dinosaur skeletons and fossils discovered in the surrounding hills. The landscape itself is part of the story too, with hoodoos, canyons, and dusty trails giving the whole area a wild-west feel that’s completely different from the mountain scenery still to come.
-
As the journey continues into the Canadian Rockies, the scenery becomes even more dramatic in Jasper National Park and Banff National Park. Highlights include a trip onto the vast Columbia Icefield aboard an Ice Explorer, where you can step out onto ancient glacial ice, followed by the glass-floored Skywalk overlooking the Sunwapta Valley. There’s also time for adrenaline-fuelled fun with white-water rafting near Athabasca Falls. In Banff, the pace shifts slightly with experiences like guided horse-riding along the Bow River, and the thrilling Ridgewalker route on the Mount Norquay Via Ferrata.
-
Throughout the trip, the accommodation adds plenty of character. You’ll stay in themed rooms at Fantasyland Hotel, located beside the attractions of West Edmonton Mall, while mountain stays bring a more relaxed feel at places like Miette Mountain Cabins, where cosy log cabins, outdoor hot pools, and forest surroundings create a classic Canadian lodge atmosphere. The journey finishes in Banff at Tunnel Mountain Resort, where spacious suites, kitchen facilities, and mountain views make it easy for families to unwind after full days exploring the Rockies.
