An iconic route through Western Canada

9 nights from £5,739 per person based on 2 sharing

This 16-day itinerary travels west through Canada, starting in the Rocky Mountains and finishing on the Pacific Coast. It combines time in Banff and Jasper with a two-day journey on the Rocky Mountaineer, followed by a stay in Vancouver. This route has been carefully planned, with key experiences included and enough free time to enjoy each place properly.
  • Banff is the starting point, set against a backdrop of mountain peaks and glacier-fed lakes. A ride on the Banff Gondola takes you to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for wide views across the surrounding ranges, while a guided tour through Banff and Yoho National Parks covers Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Takakkaw Falls, and Emerald Lake, with lunch served at Emerald Lake Lodge.

  • From Banff, the route continues north to Jasper along the Icefields Parkway, a stretch of road known for its dramatic scenery. Stops along the way include Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, and Athabasca Falls, followed by a visit to the Athabasca Glacier where you can walk onto the Columbia Icefield Skywalk. Time in Jasper itself is more relaxed, with the option to explore the national park before heading out on an evening wildlife tour led by local guides, who share their knowledge of the area while looking for elk, deer, and other native animals.

  • The journey then shifts to rail, with two full days on board the Rocky Mountaineer from Jasper to Vancouver, including an overnight stay in Kamloops. Travel takes place during daylight hours, allowing you to follow the changing scenery as mountain terrain gives way to river canyons and the Fraser Valley. Panoramic windows, attentive hosts, and freshly prepared breakfasts and lunches served on board make this a comfortable and well-run experience rather than simply a means of transport.

  • Accommodation throughout the trip has been chosen to suit each destination. In Banff, the Moose Hotel & Suites offers spacious rooms with fireplaces, deep soaking tubs, and rooftop hot pools overlooking the mountains. Jasper’s Forest Park Hotel provides a practical and comfortable base close to the national park, while Vancouver’s Sutton Place Hotel adds a more refined city stay, with generous rooms, a full-service spa, and a central location near Robson Street.
