Explore from Tokyo to the Japanese Alps

10 nights from £5,399 per person based on 2 sharing

This ten-night journey takes a steady, well-paced route through Japan, linking big cities with smaller historic towns, while giving you enough time to enjoy each stop. From the fast-moving streets of Tokyo to the slower pace of the Japanese Alps, on through Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Osaka, the itinerary balances landmark sights with the kind of everyday moments that make the country so compelling.
  • The trip begins in Tokyo, where the scale and energy of the city quickly set the scene. Time here moves between famous areas such as Shibuya and more low-key neighbourhoods where local cafés, department store food halls, and backstreets show how daily life really works. It’s an easy introduction to Japan, with well-organised transport, walkable districts, and plenty of time to get your bearings before moving on.

  • From the capital, the route shifts into the Japanese Alps, with time in Takayama offering a completely different pace. The old town around Sanmachi Street is traditional, with wooden merchant houses, sake breweries, and small craft shops lining the streets. It’s quieter here, and that contrast makes the experience feel more personal, especially when paired with regional food that reflects the area’s colder climate and farming roots.

  • Next comes Kyoto and Hiroshima, where history takes centre stage in very different ways. Kyoto’s districts, temples, and traditional streets show a side of Japan shaped by ceremony and long-standing customs, while Hiroshima brings a more reflective atmosphere. Visiting the Peace Memorial Park and Atomic Bomb Dome adds emotional depth to the journey, before the tour finishes in Osaka, a city known for its friendly character, lively evenings, and casual food scene that feels immediately welcoming.

  • Throughout the trip, accommodation is chosen for comfort, convenience, and consistency. Hotels are modern and well-located, making it easy to step straight into each destination without long commutes. Rooms are designed with practicality in mind, offering comfortable beds, good soundproofing, and space to unwind after full days of sightseeing.
