Your adventure begins on the west coast before heading inland to Sigiriya, where Sri Lanka’s ancient history feels especially present. Climbing Sigiriya Rock Fortress takes you past centuries-old frescoes and vast water gardens before opening out onto views across the plains. Nearby, the ruins of Polonnaruwa reveal a former royal capital through carefully carved stonework, while an evening safari in Minneriya National Park offers the chance to see elephants gathering around the reservoir.

Next, the route continues to Kandy. A visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic provides an insight into rituals that remain central to daily life, before the journey
thenclimbs into the hill country, with a scenic train ride to Nuwara Eliya passing tea estates, waterfalls, and small villages. Time here is spent visiting working tea plantations and exploring a town influenced by its colonial past, where cooler air and slower mornings set a very different tone. -
The landscape shifts again in Yala National Park, where game drives focus on spotting leopards, elephants, crocodiles, and birdlife across open plains and scrubland. After wildlife encounters, the journey heads south to Galle, walking the ramparts of the Dutch Fort and seeing its lighthouse, churches, and craft workshops. Your final days are spent in Bentota, where the pace eases further, with ocean views and long stretches of coastline providing a relaxed end to the trip.
