See the spectacular sights of Norway

The Hurtigruten Coastal Express is an iconic route that follows Norway’s shoreline from Bergen to Kirkenes, linking historic cities, island communities, and Arctic outposts. It’s a working route as much as a journey and gives you a real sense of how life along the coast operates. The route is also featured in the current Channel 4 show Lorraine Kelly’s Norwegian Odyssey, which follows the journey north and highlights the people, ports, and everyday realities of coastal Norway, making it an unmissable trip for fans of stunning scenery and maritime history.
  • The voyage begins in Bergen, where the ship departs past the Bryggen wharf and out into a web of islands and sheltered channels. Early stops include Florø and Måløy, small ports shaped by fishing and maritime trade, before continuing north towards Ålesund. Known for its Art Nouveau architecture, Ålesund sits across a series of islands at the mouth of the fjords, backed by steep mountains that come into view as the ship approaches.

  • Further along the route, the ship reaches Trondheim, one of Norway’s oldest cities and home to the Nidaros Cathedral. This stop offers a change in pace, with cafés, waterfront warehouses, and a compact centre that’s easy to explore. Beyond Trondheim, the coastline becomes more rugged as the ship moves into Nordland and crosses the Arctic Circle, with calls at ports like Ørnes and Bodø, where open sea replaces the sheltered southern waters.

  • The journey continues through the Lofoten Islands, passing sharp peaks and narrow routes before reaching Tromsø, often referred to as the gateway to the Arctic. Here, the ship docks close to the city centre, with views of the Arctic Cathedral and the Tromsø Bridge. Beyond Tromsø, ports become smaller and more remote as the route heads towards Hammerfest, Honningsvåg, and the North Cape area, before ending in Kirkenes, close to the Russian border.

  • On board, your accommodation is designed to be comfortable and practical. Cabins are bright and functional, with luxurious beds, desks, storage, and en-suite bathrooms that suit longer journeys. Public areas include panoramic lounges, an observation deck, and informal seating spaces where you can watch the scenery glide by, read, or simply follow the rhythm of the route.
