• The setup of the resort makes it easy to switch off without feeling limited. There’s a large central pool if you want something more social, along with quieter stretches of beach where you can claim your own space for the day. The shoreline runs almost the full way around the island, so it never feels crowded, and the water is calm enough for swimming straight from the sand. There’s also a well-equipped spa, watersports centre, and a few bars dotted around, so you’re never far from somewhere to stop for a drink or break things up.

• Out beyond the resort, the surroundings are exactly what you’d expect from this part of the Maldives. The lagoon shifts in colour throughout the day, and snorkelling straight off the beach often means spotting reef fish without much effort. You can also visit one of the nearby farm islands, where much of the produce served at the resort is grown, over 38 varieties of fruits and vegetables, including bananas, coconuts, cucumbers, papayas, and tomatoes. It adds a bit more context to what’s on your plate, without feeling like a staged experience.

• Food here has a bit more range than you might expect from a single-island stay. Breakfasts are easy and varied at Iru Restaurant, while evenings can be switched up between places like Flavours for something more refined or Bamboo for Asian dishes. Seafood features heavily, often locally sourced, and the overall feel is unhurried, with dinners tending to run long, with no pressure to move on quickly.
