Uncover the beauty of Vietnam

9 nights from £1,800 per person based on 2 sharing

If you have ever wanted to understand the distinct personalities of Vietnam’s north and south, this itinerary is the way to do it. This nine-night journey takes you from the colonial streets of Hanoi, down the coast to Hue and Hoi An, and finally into the beautifully chaotic energy of Ho Chi Minh City. It’s a route well-travelled for a reason - it hits every major highlight while leaving enough room for the unplanned moments that make travel memorable.
  • Halong Bay is one of those places that actually lives up to the hype. You’ll spend a night aboard a traditional junk boat, drifting past thousands of limestone karsts that rise straight out of the emerald water. The standout moment here isn't just the view; it’s the seafood lunch served fresh on deck and the chance to explore hidden caves like Sung Sot.

  • Hue feels different from the rest of Vietnam. It was the imperial capital, and that history is stamped all over the architecture and the attitude. You’ll visit the Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City, which were heavily damaged during the war but still hold a powerful sense of grandeur. The real secret here, though, is the food. Hue cuisine is distinct - spicier and more intricate than in the north.

  • Walking through the pedestrian-friendly streets of Hoi An feels like stepping back in time. The trading port architecture has been preserved incredibly well, and the town is famous for its tailors who can whip up a custom suit or dress in 24 hours. But beyond the shopping, the atmosphere here is special. You can cycle out to the nearby rice paddies or take a cooking class to learn the secrets of dishes like cao lau noodles - a dish you can only find in this specific town due to the unique water used from local wells.

  • This trip uses a mix of standard hotels and unique overnight transport. The overnight train from Hanoi to Hue is an experience in itself - a rite of passage for travellers in Vietnam that lets you see the countryside wake up from your window. In towns like Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City, the hotels are centrally located, serving as perfect bases for exploring the nightlife. You are never far from a rooftop bar or a busy night market where you can grab a cold bia hoi (fresh beer) and watch the world go by.
