Good times in Galle

We were on a 14 night tour of Sri Lanka with Intrepid Travel Our group consisted of two brits, two Aussies and one lady from Spain( who had a mistrust of people that drank milk) We were having a ball - sharing our love of travel and all had the same sense of humour We travelled around the island in an airconditioned bus with our very knowledgeable guide Sam

Galle was our next stop travelling south from Yala down the highway we picked up the coast again . It is a Unesco World Heritage site with lots of Dutch colonial buildings Galle is where a lot of the test matches take place in Sri Lanka and also is one of the best preserved old towns from the Dutch period ( 17th /18th Century) In recent years there has been a lot of rennovation going on with houses being converted into exclusive hotels , boutiques and cafes Our hotel was stunning 'Le Grand Galle' -the reception was open air with an infinity pool with stunning views of Galle & the Ocean We were able to go on a walking tour around the fort and watch the sun set with the locals strolling on the waterfront In the evening we were entertained by a local 'busker' who serenaded us in a local restaurant This area is great for birders with the Hiyare Rainforest reservoir nearby on the outskirts of the city
