Gold Weekend in Cancun

Wendy Farrar on 09 May 2015
I travelled with my husband to Cancun for my annual Gold Conference held in the luxurious all inclusive Secrets the Vine Resort and Spa, one of the many resorts in the portfolio of our main sponsors AM Resorts. With a superb beach location right on the Caribbean sea, it has 495 rooms and suites, seven restaurants, seven bars, all day coffee lounge and 24 hour room service so you are never far from food or a drink! In addition to the magnificent beach there are three separate pools all with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas.

In addition to the conference business, our programme of events included a welcome drinks and buffet reception. We followed this with a dinner by the main pool where we sampled dishes from all seven of the resorts restaurants, a five course gala dinner with different wine for each course introduced by the Head Sommelier and entertainment by Mexico’s version of Il Divo. Our farewell event was provided at the sister hotel Secrets Playa Mujeres where we enjoyed a buffet dinner outside in a large plaza around a huge pool area. We enjoyed entertainment from an excellent guitarist who played “Brian May” style on top of a pavilion plus an amazing fire dancing show.

In the daytime we had a choice of excursions on offer including a jungle tour, extreme canopy riding through a forest, catamaran adventure, a visit to the Mayan ruins at Tulum or visits to other local hotels in the AM Resorts portfolio. Complimentary golf was also on offer at the Secrets Playa Mujeres Resort and Spa. Alternatively you could just chill out on the beach or by one of the pools and catch up with colleagues many of whom have become very good friends through meeting at similar events in previous years. I also enjoyed the short sessions provided by the Hotel staff each day learning about and tasting tequila and Mexican wines and a cookery lesson where I made spicy sea bass which was all very interesting and informative.

Secrets the Vine is a modern and elegant property with large, comfortable rooms and suites, a great choice of restaurants with a no reservation policy in place. There is a huge variety of bars and areas to relax in during the day and excellent spa facilities. I had a wonderfully relaxing time and will definitely be visiting a Secrets Resort again soon... I have already booked mine for next March!
