An Authentic Greek Island - Thassos

I returned in July from a wonderful week on the beautiful Island of Thassos. We flew into Kavala airport and then it was approximately 30-40 mins by ferry across to the island.

We stayed in the small town of Limenaria which had a beach and plentiful beautiful restaurants line the promenade. Thassos is a true authentic Greek Island and I found it was not very touristy at all - it was a true gem.

Thassos’ scenery is trademark Greek. The island is blanketed with rolling hillsides, vineyards, olive groves and there is the mountain as well. We hired a jeep one day and we got to see quite a bit of this beautiful Island. We stopped at stunning deserted beaches, visited Archagelou monastery, the Giola Natural Pool and then headed inland towards the Mount Ipsarion which is Thassos’ tallest peak. We stopped at mountain villages on the way and sampled some of the local mountain foods and purchased the local Olive Oils.

I would highly recommend this Island if you are looking for something a bit more authentic and typically Greek. The local people were very friendly, and the food was of excellent quality and there was an abundance of local fish restaurants also.
