I'm thrilled at the opportunity to discover what excites you and to craft your perfect travel experience!
My own wanderlust was ignited during a trip to the Black Sea, my birthplace, Romania. Since then, I've journeyed to captivating destinations across the globe. From exploring the ancient 'lost city' of Petra in the Jordanian desert to island-hopping in Croatia, from paragliding on the Turkish coast to snorkelling in Egypt's Red Sea, each experience has been uniquely enriching. However, nothing quite compares to the awe-inspiring beauty of Peru, where trekking amidst the vibrant Rainbow mountains and witnessing the sunset at Machu Picchu left an indelible mark on my soul.
The most fascinating destination for me thus far is Peru. I cannot describe the feeling of trekking in the colourful Rainbow mountains whilst marvelling at the amazing views of glaciers, soaring condors at over 5100m! Or the breath-taking view that awaits you as you descend from your Inca trail upon the magnificent Machu Pichu at sunset! A guy proposed while we were approaching and we all joined in the celebrations, it was just surreal!
Second on my list would have to be Bali, I witnessed a smouldering sunset at Tanah Lot, wandered through neatly terraced rice paddies, and swam at the Banyumala hidden twin waterfall pond. I remember how impressed I was seeing how women could carry fully loaded trays straight on their heads (even drinks!!!). In Ubud please beware of the opportunist monkeys, they impudently stole my snacks right out of my hands!
Closer to home, I've been enchanted by the flamenco shows of Spain, the rolling landscapes of Tuscany, and the romance of Venice's canals. From the bustling streets of Paris to the serene beauty of Norway's fjords, each destination offers its own magic waiting to be explored.
Let me guide you through the wonders of travel, whether it's experiencing the northern lights in Finland or indulging in Portugal's delectable Pastel de Nata. With my expertise, you can rest assured that every detail of your journey will be expertly planned, leaving you free to savour every moment of your vacation. Reach out to me now, and let's turn your travel dreams into reality!
Whether is a quick weekend break, a family holiday or a longer bucket list trip, you'll get the same care and attention. I put the same dedication into your holiday as if it was my own!

Discovering the Charm of Nice: A Jewel of the French Riviera Nice is more than just a pretty face on the French Riviera; it’s a city rich in culture, history, and cuisine. Whether you’re lounging on the beach, wandering through the Old Town, or visiting its world-class museums, Nice will leave you enchanted with its blend of French elegance and Mediterranean charm. One of the first things that strikes visitors is the Promenade des Anglais, a famous seaside boulevard stretching along the Baie des Anges. Originally built for English aristocrats, hence its name, this palm-tree-lined promenade is perfect for a leisurely stroll, biking, or simply sitting on one of its benches to watch the turquoise waves. The stretch also offers gorgeous views of both the beach and the backdrop of Nice’s cityscape. Old Town (Vieux Nice): A Step Back in Time The beating heart of Nice is its Vieux Nice (Old Town), a labyrinth of narrow, cobblestone streets, lively markets, and colourful buildings. The ochre and pastel houses create a warm atmosphere, reminiscent of nearby Italian villages. Be sure to visit the Cours Saleya Market, where you’ll find everything from fresh flowers to artisanal goods and the freshest produce. Don't miss the Sainte-Réparate Cathedral, a baroque beauty that dominates the Old Town’s skyline, or the charming squares, like Place Rossetti, lined with cafés perfect for people-watching. Nice has long been a haven for artists, and it’s home to world-class museums. Musée Matisse, located in the heart of the Cimiez neighbourhood, celebrates the life and work of Henri Matisse, who spent much of his life in the city. Equally impressive is the Musée Marc Chagall, housing a stunning collection of the artist's works. For the best views of Nice, make your way to the Colline du Château (Castle Hill). Though the actual castle no longer exists, the park offers spectacular vistas over the city, harbour, and Mediterranean. Culinary Delights Nice’s cuisine is as vibrant as its architecture, influenced by both French and Italian traditions. Socca, a chickpea pancake, is a local favourite, often served as street food. Another signature dish is Salade Niçoise, a fresh combination of tuna, tomatoes, olives, and anchovies. For a true taste of Nice, visit a traditional Niçoise restaurant or explore the local food markets. Pair your meal with a glass of Bellet wine, produced in the nearby hills, and finish with a sweet treat like Tourte de Blettes, a unique pie made with Swiss chard and raisins. Beaches and Beyond The beaches of Nice are a mix of private and public areas, unfortunately mostly pebble. While many opt for the convenience of private beaches offering sunbeds and service, the public areas are just as inviting for a dip in the Mediterranean.

Fresh from our recent visit to Cannes, I must say this glamorous town on the French Riviera offers much more than just its famed film festival. It’s a place where luxury, history, and laid-back Mediterranean vibes coexist harmoniously. Stepping into Cannes, we were immediately greeted by the bustling energy of La Croisette. This famous promenade, lined with swaying palm trees, is home to luxury hotels such as the InterContinental Carlton and designer boutiques. The view of the azure Mediterranean glistening in the distance was enough to set the tone for the rest of the trip. For the historic buffs, I recommend venturing into Le Suquet, Cannes' charming old town. The quaint, narrow streets meander uphill, revealing stunning views of the port below. Your climb will be rewarded with a visit to the Eglise Notre-Dame d'Espérance, an impressive 16th-century church, and a panoramic view over the city, with the sparkling Mediterranean stretching endlessly into the horizon. The Old Town is perfect for wandering, with its charming cafés, local artisans, and boutiques tucked into every corner. No trip to Cannes would be complete without spending a day on one of its sun-kissed beaches. For those seeking a more exclusive experience, there are private beach clubs such as Plage du Martinez, where you can lounge on plush sunbeds and enjoy drinks in the comfort of your own parasol-shaded spot. For dinner, we headed to Le Maschou in Le Suquet, a delightful Provençal restaurant famous for its rustic cuisine and homely atmosphere. The fresh seafood and authentic Provençal flavours made it a perfect way to end a beach day. If you have an extra day in Cannes, I would embark on a short ferry ride to the Lérins Islands, just off the coast of Cannes. Île Sainte-Marguerite was our destination – an island known for the oursterious Man in the Iron Mask, who was imprisoned there. The island’s peaceful walking trails, shaded by towering pines, and its secluded beaches provided a serene escape from the glamour of the mainland. Our last day was all about indulgence. We treated ourself to a meal at La Palme d’Or, the Michelin-starred restaurant located at the Hotel Martinez. The artistry and refinement of each dish were nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the finest local ingredients in a truly sophisticated setting. Cannes, with its blend of glamour, historical charm, and natural beauty, offers a truly unforgettable travel experience. Whether you’re drawn to the luxury of La Croisette, the history of Le Suquet, or the tranquillity of the Lérins Islands, Cannes has something for every type of traveller.

This summer, our family embarked on a mesmerising journey to southern France, a region of unparalleled beauty It was an enchanting escape, where every moment was framed by awe-inspiring coastal vistas, picturesque villages, and vibrant cities, each imbued with its own unique charm and cultural richness. From the sun-drenched shores of the Côte d'Azur to the timeless allure of medieval hilltop towns, southern France offers an extraordinary tapestry of experiences. It invites you to savour exquisite cuisine, explore ancient relics, and immerse yourself in a landscape where history and nature exist in perfect harmony. Picture yourself strolling through quaint, storybook villages, with the dazzling blue of the Mediterranean as your backdrop—a place where culture, heritage, and natural beauty come together in the most captivating way imaginable. Once a humble fishing village favoured by artists, Saint-Tropez has evolved into a world-renowned luxury destination. (with prices to match!) Today, it boasts vibrant streets, home to chic cafés, exquisite townhouses, and a harbour brimming with luxurious, elegant yachts—a playground for the rich and famous. For breakfast, I highly recommend Café Dior. This hidden gem is nothing short of spectacular, offering an exclusive and serene atmosphere amidst lush greenery. The décor is stylishly chic, making it one of the most beautiful spots for breakfast in town. While in Saint-Tropez, you simply must try the legendary Tarte Tropézienne. Where better to indulge in this treat than at the café that bears its name? Stepping into this café is like entering another era, with its charming, old-world ambiance. The pastel colour scheme and peaceful surroundings make it a favourite for both locals and tourists. When it comes to beaches, you are spoiled for choice in Saint-Tropez, with Pampelonne Beach being one of the most famous. The water here is a dazzling shade of turquoise, reminiscent of the Caribbean, offering a perfect backdrop for a day of sunbathing and swimming. Tip: Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Citadel of Saint-Tropez, perched high on the hill above the town. This historical site offers panoramic views, especially magical at sunrise or sunset, and is the perfect way to soak in the beauty of the area.

Over the years, I have encountered numerous holiday mishaps that could have been effortlessly avoided. Here, I present some of the most frequent mistakes tourists make, along with my recommendations on how to steer clear of them, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable journey. My husband said I should put them in a blog, to help others, so finally I did exactly that. 1. Prioritising Saving Money Over Time While economising is undoubtedly important, many travellers overlook the fact that their time is equally valuable and limited. It is indeed in my interest to suggest that you employ the services of a travel agent instead of spending hours researching your trip, as it saves your precious time. This time can then be better spent with friends, visiting a park, or indulging in other enjoyable activities. Sometimes, it is worth paying for museum admission rather than enduring slow queues and crowded conditions on a free day. Similarly, if a taxi costs you and your partner £5 more than two bus tickets, the twenty minutes saved can be well worth it. If ever time was money, it is when you are trying to maximise the enjoyment of your holidays. Crowds are inevitable at major attractions such as the Eiffel Tower or the Anne Frank House, but standing in long queues is avoidable. Many popular sights offer advance tickets that guarantee timed entry. While hundreds of tourists endure long queues, those who book ahead can walk straight in at their reserved time. The small booking fee is well worth the time saved. 2. Not Booking Popular Attractions in Advance Major attractions, such as the Alhambra, often sell out quickly. For instance, a family who did not make a reservation through me neglected to book their tickets in advance and missed out on visiting this iconic site. Only then they called me, seeking help, but even as a travel agent, I could not perform such miracles. It is essential to book tickets well in advance to secure your spot and avoid disappointment. 3. Never Leaving the Tourist Zone Many tourists gravitate towards the most popular spots and subsequently complain about the crowds. Instead, venture beyond the main tourist areas to discover the true essence of a place. For instance, while Old Town Square in Prague may be packed, just a few streets away, you will find quieter areas with authentic local eateries. Exploring beyond the tourist zones significantly enriches your travel experience. A fundamental goal in travelling should be to establish meaningful contact with locals. For example, in an English pub, sit at the bar where people converse, rather than at a table. In Coimbra, Portugal, visit the local university’s cafeteria to practise Portuguese with students and professors. Connecting with people enhances your travel experience and often requires stepping out of your comfort zone. 4. Ignoring Local Customs and Laws Neglecting to research local customs and laws can lead to embarrassing or even illegal situations. It is essential to learn basic cultural norms and legal requirements of your destination to show respect and avoid trouble. For instance, during our trip to Egypt, we encountered a few, shall we say, awkward situations because one young lady in our group chose to wear skimpy attire. I fully comprehend that the heat can make dressing appropriately a challenge, but it is certainly not impossible. For example, I had brought along some linen long dresses which were perfectly suitable for the heat, demonstrating that it is entirely feasible to dress appropriately and comfortably even in scorching temperatures. In Japan, tipping is not customary and can be considered rude. It is essential to learn basic cultural norms and legal requirements of your destination to show respect and avoid trouble. 5. Forgetting Visa and Passport Requirements Imagine arriving at your destination only to be denied entry because your documents are not in order. This happened to a friend of mine who was turned away at the airport because her passport had less than six months' validity. The wife went ahead with the children and he had to return home, cannot even imagine what he felt! Always verify visa requirements and ensure your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. 6. Skipping Travel Insurance Skipping travel insurance might seem like a cost-saving move, but it can backfire spectacularly in case of emergencies. For example, another friend of mine once had to cancel their trip due to a family emergency and lost all their booking costs because they had no insurance. Comprehensive travel insurance covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage, providing peace of mind. 7. Neglecting Health Precautions Do not forget to check for necessary vaccinations and bring any required medications. For instance, failing to get a yellow fever vaccination before travelling to certain countries in Africa can result in being denied entry. Consulting with a healthcare provider before your trip can save you from health troubles while abroad. 8. Over-Scheduling Itineraries While it is tempting to try and see everything, packing too much into your itinerary can lead to exhaustion and stress. For instance, a family I know were in a competition to visit as many countries as possible to outdo another family. During their first trip, they attempted to visit four countries in ten days and ended up too tired to enjoy any of them. Be sure to incorporate some downtime to relax and truly appreciate your surroundings. 9. Not Double-Checking Hotel Reviews Booking a hotel without reading reviews can lead to unpleasant surprises. For instance, a traveller once booked a hotel that looked great online but was in a noisy and unsafe area. If you don’t want to use a travel agent who can advise on best places for your needs, always check multiple review platforms to ensure your accommodation meets your standards. 10. Overlooking Transportation from the Airport Plan how you will get from the airport to your accommodation in advance. For example, arranging a transfer or knowing the public transport options can save you hassle and stress upon arrival. A mum who booked a package family holiday on a popular site was shocked to find out the hotel she was supposed to be staying in was a nine-hour journey from the airport, with no transport provided.

A Journey Through the Himalayas Traveling is more than just a way to escape the monotony of everyday life; it is a transformative experience that broadens your horizons, deepens your understanding of different cultures, and enriches your soul. I heard this story last night from my friend and felt compelled to share it as soon as possible. From the remote reaches of the Himalayas to the bustling streets of Silicon Valley, a cup of yak butter tea sparked a revolution, giving birth to Bulletproof Coffee and transforming the way people approach their mornings—and their lives. High in the frosty peaks of the Himalayas, Dave Asprey, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and biohacker, found himself at the threshold of an ancient Tibetan monastery. Exhausted from his arduous trek and the relentless chill, he sought refuge with the monks who resided there. Little did he know, this encounter would change the course of his life—and the morning routines of countless people around the world. The Discovery Dave had been traveling extensively through the region, the high altitude and harsh conditions were taking a toll on him. As he entered the warm, dimly lit hall of the monastery, a monk greeted him with a gentle smile and offered him a steaming cup of tea. The drink was unlike any tea Dave had tasted before. It was creamy, rich, and invigorating. Instantly, he felt a surge of warmth and energy coursing through his body, as if the drink had rekindled a fire within him. Curious and revitalised, Dave asked the monk about the concoction. The monk explained that it was yak butter tea, a traditional beverage consumed by Tibetans for centuries to provide energy and sustain themselves in the harsh, high-altitude environment. The Idea Inspired by the profound effect the yak butter tea had on him, Dave returned to his home in Silicon Valley with a newfound sense of purpose. He began experimenting with the idea of creating a similar beverage but tailored to the tastes and dietary habits of the Western world. He substituted the traditional tea with coffee, a drink he knew was beloved by millions, and replaced yak butter with grass-fed butter, which offered a similar nutritional profile and rich, creamy texture. To further enhance the drink, Dave added medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) oil, a type of fat known for its quick absorption and conversion into energy. This combination, he believed, would not only provide sustained energy but also support cognitive function, making it the perfect morning beverage for busy professionals and health enthusiasts alike. The Experimentation Dave spent countless hours perfecting the recipe, adjusting the ratios of coffee, butter, and MCT oil to create a drink that was both delicious and effective. He experimented on himself, monitoring his energy levels, cognitive performance, and overall well-being. The results were astounding. He felt more alert, focused, and energised throughout the day, without the typical crashes associated with regular coffee consumption. The Birth of Bulletproof Coffee Realising he had stumbled upon something revolutionary, Dave decided to share his creation with the world. He coined the term "Bulletproof Coffee," symbolising the resilience and peak performance the drink provided. Dave began blogging about his discovery, sharing the recipe and the science behind it. His blog quickly gained traction, resonating with a global audience eager for innovative ways to optimise their health and performance. The Legacy Today, Bulletproof Coffee is more than just a beverage; it represents a movement towards mindful consumption and self-improvement. It has inspired countless individuals to rethink their morning routines, prioritise their health, and explore the potential of biohacking. The simple yet powerful combination of coffee, butter, and MCT oil continues to fuel the dreams and ambitions of people around the world, reminding them that sometimes, the most extraordinary discoveries come from the most unexpected places. What might your travels inspire in you?

Once You've Said 'Yes'... The Journey Begins! Including the much-needed respite of the honeymoon. For most couples, this is a truly special trip – the first long, exotic holiday together and the start of their new lives as a married couple. Naturally, you want it to be perfect. Unfortunately, a few simple mistakes could mar your dream trip. But I don’t want that – I want you to have the time of your lives. Here are my top 5 tips for planning the perfect honeymoon, tailored to your tastes. CHECK THE WEATHER BEFORE YOU BOOK If you’ve been dreaming of a winter wedding followed by a glorious beach honeymoon, some careful planning is essential. Despite some destinations seeming ‘always sunny’, many have wet seasons, hurricane seasons, and harsh winters that could spoil your ideal sunny getaway. If you enjoy rain, that’s fine, but it’s always worth researching to ensure your expectations match reality. So before booking your February honeymoon to Mauritius, remember to check the weather and avoid cyclone season! USE A TRUSTED TRAVEL AGENT With a wedding to plan, the honeymoon often becomes an afterthought for busy couples. However, your honeymoon is one of the most special holidays you will ever have, so it should be memorable. Using a trusted travel agent grants you access to hidden perks like complimentary champagne, fruit platters, spa access, and romantic dining experiences. Additionally, your Travel Agent will have direct contact with a wide range of hotels offering fantastic benefits packages for honeymooning couples, allowing you to enjoy 5-star treatment at a fraction of the cost. Another advantage of using a trusted travel agent is complete peace of mind. I can fully tailor your honeymoon experience and handle all the little details – like luggage, seat reservations, car transfers, and hotel bookings – so you can enjoy a stress-free, seamless honeymoon from start to finish. ASK FOR CONTRIBUTIONS If you’re longing for a particular honeymoon but your budget won’t quite stretch, consider a honeymoon gift list. Honeymoon contributions as wedding gifts have grown in popularity over the past few years, especially as most couples already live together before marrying. This makes traditional wedding gifts like linens and china less relevant. Instead, ask your wedding guests to help create the perfect honeymoon. With my service, you have access to a unique gift registry that simplifies managing donations. Guests can purchase specific activities for you or simply contribute funds. Our registry services include a web page for uploading photos and messages, as well as all the stationery needed to request and thank your guests for their contributions. READ TRUSTED REVIEWS It’s disheartening to say, but many people fall victim to fake reviews on their holidays. While your local pub might not hire reputation management companies, hotels and major attractions often do, with thousands of pounds at stake. Trip Advisor, for instance, lost a legal case over fraudulent marketing and had to remove ‘honest’ and ‘trustworthy’ from their branding after awarding a Travellers’ Choice Award to a hotel in Tunisia that had been closed for over six months following a tragic event. To avoid such pitfalls, consult a trusted travel agent. As a franchise owner of Travel Counsellors, I have access to millions of verified hotel reviews worldwide, ensuring you read real stories from real clients. BUDGET, BUDGET, BUDGET! Like the wedding, the honeymoon budget can easily spiral out of control. It’s crucial to set a realistic budget for your honeymoon. From there, you can devise a savings plan, determine how much to pay off in advance, and decide if you want guests to contribute. Establishing a budget helps prevent overspending and last-minute cutbacks on other wedding elements. It also stops you from dipping into the honeymoon fund if wedding costs exceed your budget, ensuring you can still afford that wonderful 10-day trip. Above all, planning the perfect honeymoon means staying true to yourselves. There is no one-size-fits-all honeymoon; this once-in-a-lifetime trip should celebrate everything that makes your marriage unique. As a Travel Counsellor, I love helping each couple create their ideal honeymoon – whether it’s swimming in clear blue oceans, a safari or watching the Northern Lights together. With my network of contacts and knowledge of luxury travel worldwide, I can help plan the perfect honeymoon for you. For more information or to start planning the most exciting getaway of your life, get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you!

However, there are numerous benefits to working with me that go beyond convenience. We are a very tight community and help each others out. 3. Access to Exclusive Perks and Benefits Through my industry connections and affiliations, I often have access to exclusive deals, upgrades, and amenities that aren’t available to the general public. These perks can range from complimentary breakfast and spa credits at hotels to special guided tours and insider access to popular attractions. Such benefits can significantly enhance your travel experience, providing added value and luxury. 4. I handle all the details for you, from booking flights and accommodations to arranging tours and transportation. I provide support and advocacy, helping to resolve problems quickly and efficiently. This level of support can give you peace of mind, knowing that you have a professional on your side who can navigate the complexities of travel disruptions. Let me give you an example, one family were travelling for a long weekend to Amsterdam, on Eurostar on the way there, their train back got cancelled. They had to return by Sunday night as they had to go to work and the children had school. Imagine having to deal with this stress on your way to your destination. And the hours on a phone to try and rebook... Eurostar was offering trains back only on Tuesday am, that was out of the question. Because they used me, they did not have to deal with any of that stress. By the time their train pulled into Amsterdam their return was already sorted and they could just enjoy their holidays. I am not saying that something bad happens all the time but when it does, I will be ready to put in the hours waiting on the phone, etc, while you actually enjoy your holiday. 6. Tailored Recommendations and Insider Tips I offer tailored recommendations based on your preferences and past travel experiences. I can suggest the best restaurants, unique activities, and off-the-beaten-path attractions that align with your interests. My insider tips can help you make the most of your trip, ensuring memorable and enriching experiences that you might not have discovered on your own. 7. Cost-Effectiveness Contrary to popular belief, using a travel advisor can be cost-effective. While sometimes not cheaper than other travel booking online services, my access to exclusive deals and my ability to bundle services can lead to savings. Additionally, my expertise can help you avoid costly mistakes and ensure you get the best value for your money. A client wanted to book a hotel in Türkiye that she thought it would be great based on reviews that she read online, but it was a hotel I myself visited and advised her against, as very expensive for what they were actually offering and offered a substitute which turned out to be much more suited for her and her family. 8. Tailored Travel Insurance I can recommend and arrange travel insurance tailored to your specific needs. I can explain the different options and help you choose the best coverage for your trip, providing peace of mind in case of emergencies or unforeseen events.

Traveling is a splendid way to immerse oneself in diverse cultures, connect with new people, and marvel at stunning destinations. However, responsible travel entails acknowledging and mitigating the adverse effects our journeys can have on local communities, wildlife, and the environment. As a passionate advocate for sustainable travel, I find great joy in inspiring others to adopt eco-friendly practices during their adventures. Even small adjustments to your travel habits can significantly enhance the environment and alleviate social and economic challenges in the places you visit. Beyond ecological benefits, embracing responsible travel fosters personal fulfilment and well-being, contributing to the overarching joy and enrichment that travel offers. For the eco-conscious traveller, consider these essential tips before planning your next journey: SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITIES Prioritise patronising local businesses to keep money circulating within the local economy, which helps reduce poverty and inequality while protecting the environment. Dining at local restaurants, shopping at markets, booking local tour guides, and staying at locally-owned accommodations ensure your expenditures benefit the community directly. This not only enriches your cultural experience but also promotes authentic interactions with locals. AVOID EXPLOITATIVE PRACTICES Be discerning when selecting tours and experiences, especially those involving wildlife. Activities like elephant rides, animal petting zoos, and swimming with dolphins often involve animal cruelty. A general rule is if you can touch, bathe, feed, or ride wild animals, it's best to abstain. Additionally, steer clear of mass-produced souvenirs from tourist traps and instead support local artisans by purchasing unique, handmade items. EXPLORE OFF THE BEATEN PATH Discovering lesser-known destinations can offer more authentic and enriching experiences. For instance, Haarlem in the Netherlands provides a charming alternative to Amsterdam, while Tarragona in Spain offers the cultural and historical allure of Barcelona without the crowds. These smaller cities often have a local vibe and can be reached conveniently by rail, enhancing your travel experience. With a little bit of research and the help of yours truly, you will often find that the most interesting and beautiful places can be discovered outside of the major tourist zones, away from the mass crowds in lesser visited communities. There is almost always a better alternative! MINIMISE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT Opt for sustainable transportation whenever possible. Can you take a train instead of flying? Walk instead of taking a short taxi ride? Join a cycling tour instead of using a city bus? Consider longer trips that encompass multiple destinations to reduce the frequency of flights. For example, Greek island hopping or a multi-city Italian tour can maximise your experiences while minimising your environmental impact. BE ENVIRONMENTALLY MINDFUL Reduce plastic consumption by packing refillable water bottles, coffee mugs, and reusable shopping bags. Choose accommodations that prioritize sustainability, ensuring they implement waste reduction, support local food producers, and adopt energy-saving measures. As a seasoned travel agent with a passion for exploration, my recent journey to Granada, Spain, was nothing short of extraordinary. Join me as I recount my experiences in this captivating city, offering insights and recommendations for travellers seeking an authentic Spanish adventure. The best time to visit Granada is spring and late autumn; specifically April through early June and late September through November. March is also really nice if you're ok with cooler temperatures. We went in April, the orange trees were in full bloom, just extraordinary, did not realise that orange blossoms smell so divine! A Blooming Arrival in Granada Picture this: Arriving in Granada amidst a sea of orange blossoms in full bloom, their sweet fragrance filling the air with magic. We landed in Malaga and hit the road in a hired car to Granada, arriving at the stunning Alhambra Palace Hotel mid-afternoon. With the Albaicín beckoning, we set out to explore the labyrinthine streets of this ancient Moorish quarter. Navigating the Streets of Old Granada Wandering through the labyrinthine streets of the Albaicín, I felt as though I had stepped back in time. The neighbourhood’s whitewashed houses, narrow alleyways, and picturesque squares offered a glimpse into Granada's Moorish past. We stumbled upon hidden gems, from charming tea houses to quaint artisan workshops, each adding to the neighbourhood’s undeniable allure. The place is entirely walkable, however, the narrow cobbled street are not very comfortable, wear sensible shoes and do not take a pram if you have babies, a carrier is more suitable. The trek to the Albaicin and Alhambra is particularly steep. Try to make it to mirador San Nicolas around sunset time, just trust me. Once you arrive you’ll see why as the view of the Alhambra is spectacular. It’s lively this time of day as there are usually flamenco dancers and guitarists performing, vendors selling cheap souvenirs, and visitors enjoying a glass of wine while taking in the view. Alhambra Palace You simply must visit the Alhambra Palace if you go to Granada, a UNESCO World Heritage site that exudes an aura of enchantment and grandeur. Just remember that you must book your tickets as early as three months in advance to guarantee you can get in, they only allow 8000 people per day and once that is capped, there is no way in. Exploring the intricately designed Nasrid Palaces and strolling through the Generalife Gardens left me in awe of the architectural mastery and centuries-old legacy of Moorish rule. I saved the Alhambra for day two in Granada so that we could arrive before it opened and enjoyed the palace at our own pace and have a little bit of time without the hordes of tourist groups. ). You could easily spend four hours here… Those that do Granada as a day trip will have a rushed visit and are forced to go in the late morning/afternoon (when it's the most crowded) The Cathedral This isn’t your typical European Gothic cathedral with dark interiors. Granada’s cathedral has a bright white interior designed in lavish Renaissance and Baroque styles. Just around the corner from the cathedral is the resting place of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. The Royal Chapel is a must-visit for history buffs as the Catholic monarchs buried here are the most significant rulers in Spain’s history. Visit the treasury to see Queen Isabella’s personal art collection, crown, prayer book, and sceptre. There is also a box that was supposedly given to Columbus and filled with jewels to fund his journey to America. Your entrance fee to both this and the cathedral includes the audio guide. Indulging in Culinary Delights No trip to Granada would be complete without sampling its tantalising cuisine. From savouring traditional tapas in local taverns to dining in elegant restaurants, every meal was a culinary delight. I savoured the flavours of Andalusia, from succulent Albondigas to aromatic Gazpacho, with each dish reflecting the region's diverse culinary heritage. You can’t visit Southern Spain without enjoying churros. Some of the best churros in Granada, and I’m talking the thick authentic churros, not the skinny ones loaded with sugar, can be found at Gran Cafe Bib Rambla. Not only are the churros delicious, the location is wonderful. Gran Cafe Bib Rambla is in a pretty square that's always buzzing with activity. Immersing in Flamenco Culture One evening, I found myself drawn to the rhythmic beats of flamenco echoing through the streets of Sacromonte. Venturing into a traditional cave venue, I witnessed the raw emotion and intensity of this iconic Spanish art form. The passionate performances, accompanied by soulful music and stirring dance, left an indelible impression on my heart. Exploring the Sierra Nevada Venturing beyond the city limits, we embarked on a journey to the Sierra Nevada mountains, a natural paradise just a short drive from Granada. Hiking through lush forests, breathing in the crisp mountain air, and marvelling at panoramic vistas were highlights of our outdoor adventures. Whether skiing in winter or hiking in summer, the Sierra Nevada offers endless opportunities for exploration and rejuvenation. Crafting Unforgettable Memories My journey to Granada was a testament to the city's timeless charm and boundless beauty. From its majestic landmarks to its vibrant streets, every moment was filled with wonder and discovery.
