Charming Cotswolds

Cotswolds – wow what a stunning place! No wonder it is as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you have never been, it is well worth a visit. You can stay in a central place and go and visit different towns every day and just meander through the streets to admire the architecture and the scenery and just relax.

We stayed at the Bluewood Lodges in Kingham, the lodges come with their own hot tub and sauna. Most of the hot tubs are private but there were just a couple which weren’t so private so worth bearing that in mind when booking.

There were 30 lodges on the site so nice and quiet and not too big. They do have a restaurant on site which apparently has won lots of awards, but in my opinion it was overpriced for not much food and not that great quality – perhaps it was a bad day.

You can ride horses there, go fishing and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed in Blenheim Lodge and I would recommend it, not the most luxurious I have stayed in but a nice home from home type place.

The location was ideal as you are in the middle of so many little towns, we visited Bourton on the Water, which was a very pretty village with the stream running through it and the overhanging trees, the quaint shops and of course cream teas and pub lunches.

Other towns we visited included Broadway, Moreton in Marsh (you must eat in the Yellow Brick Café, amazing food!!), Chipping Campden, Stow on the Wold, Burford and they were all in the same style and very picturesque, Chipping Norton was the closest town to where we were based but there is not too much to see here.

On our last day we visited Witney (more mainstream shopping rather than historical place) and then onto Oxford which as you may imagine is a huge town. We took a Sightseeing bus as we had limited time and this was ideal to get to know more about the history of their education system and visit areas of Oxford that we wouldn’t have seen on foot.

We were very lucky with the weather as it was early July and the sun was shining every day.

It certainly is a stunning part of the country, we have some beautiful places in the UK, we just need to get the weather to match!
