Last minute Easter weekend getaway break to Boston.

I decided 2 weeks before Easter weekend to take my wife Becky to Boston. She had never been before, and I hadn’t been for many years. I found some cheap flights with JetBlue in economy class for 2 nights, which I thought would make a great weekend stay. Flying from Gatwick to Boston takes just over 6 hours. The flight was busy on both journeys and what I loved about JetBlue is that you could order your meal from TV screen, just choosing what you wanted to eat instead of the unnecessary waste of rolls and salads. The entertainment was good onboard, plus you got a lovely amenity kits which you could keep. There was plenty of leg room which was surprising. When we arrived at Boston airport, it was busy with other international flights arriving around the same time. We did clear customs and immigration fairly quickly. Once we left the airport we took a bus to Back Bay, where we were staying at the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel. Logan Express is free from the airport and $3.00 per person back to the airport. When we checked into our hotel we were given a free room upgrade to Junior suite room number 680 It was lovely and spacious with its own seating area, plus a big bathroom. The hotel is in a great location area with subway stop only 5 minutes walk on the green and orange line. There are many shops and restaurants near by plus famous Newberry Street. Once we checked in, we decided to dump our cases and venture out to see Boston, as we were only here for 2 nights we wanted to take full advantage of seeing much of Boston on this trip. The main reason why we chose Boston, was to see the Blue Man Group. I had seen them previously on a cruise ship, but Becky hadn’t seen them. On our way out venturing, we found the box office that sells tickets for the Blue Man Group, so we purchased tickets for the show next day. We were both excited to see them, plus we got great tickets at the front. Then we went to Chinatown, searching for a reasonable restaurant, before deciding that a Korean restaurant was cheaper and better value plus nearer to our hotel, as next day was going to be a full day. The next day we were up early planning the places we would like to visit. Our first stop was Boston Common followed by Cheers Bar. It was so nice to see these places. We decided in the end to walk around Boston instead of using the subway. We did the freedom Trail which was really interesting covering lots of history and famous sites. The trails is 2.5 miles covering 16 location including Quincy market. We had a lovely lunch including the famous Lobster Roll costing around $32.00 with soft drink. Quincy Market reminded us of Covent Garden, as there were street performers plus plenty of food stalls. After lunch we continued our tour on the Freedom Trail, as it’s a self guided walking tour and great to see Boston this way. We went through the Italian neighbourhood and also Irish. The final destination on the trail is Bunker Hill, which has great views once you climb up to the top of the hill. On our walk back to the hotel we stopped off at one of the Boston farmers market to have a famous Boston Crème pie. The Market was lovely with lots of fresh produce including vegetables, fish, bakery.etc.The market had a great feel and vibe. We did notice that there were plenty of churches in Boston whilst walking around this is due to its history There is the option of hop on off tours if you prefer not to walk around Boston. We found Boston to be very safe, even at night. Once we got back to the hotel, It was time to get ready for the Blue Man Group. We walked to the show, as it wasn’t that far from our hotel around 25 minutes walk. The show was amazing and worth it, we both laughed lots throughout the show and thought Blue Man Group was part of our highlight on this trip. Our final day before heading to the airport, we had a lovely breakfast at The Friendly Toast restaurant, it was busy with lots of local people which is always a good sign. After breakfast we decided to go back to Quincy market for our lunch as we had such a lovely time the day before. Again we walked around Boston, taking in all the sights including Old South Meeting House, Old State House, and Faneuil Hall. We took the subway back to the airport which was easy and cost $2.40 per person based on April 23 fare. We definitely want to go back there, seeing more of Boston plus New England. The weather was dry, but very cold with sea winds. I would suggest going to Boston in the fall. Loved Boston. A special thanks to Fairmont Copley Plaza. For amazing stay.
