Back to Barbados

After an unsuccessful attempt to travel to Barbados in March 2020, we re-booked to travel in March this year, and I couldn’t wait!

We flew out of Manchester with Virgin Atlantic, on a 9 hour flight (it was 8 hours coming back) in Economy Delight, which gave us a few inches more legroom than normal economy, and was worth the extra cost in my opinion.

We stayed a few minutes inland from Holetown, which is on the west coast, and where we headed most nights, as it has a great choice of restaurants. Offerings ranged from jerk chicken in a casual restaurant, to fine dining overlooking the beach. Some have local singers performing in the evenings, (mainly weekend) as well, which was great.

As usual, most of our days were spent relaxing with a book in hand and just enjoying the warmth, which was quite a contrast to the snow we left behind in Sheffield.

As we had been to Barbados several times, we had driven round the island before, so we just went out on one occasion this time. We visited Hunte’s gardens, which is a lovely botanical garden, mainly built into a large sinkhole, but has secluded shaded areas where you can sit, and just enjoy the tranquillity. They were created by Anthony Hunte, and we had the pleasure of meeting him when we stopped for a drink at the end.

The currency is the Barbados Dollar, but you can also use US Dollars. Prices had gone up since we were last there and an average evening meal for two, was coming to £80-£90 for a main course with a wine and a coke, but there were places that were more expensive than that, and of course it depends on what you eat and drink.

We had a wonderful time again in Barbados, and I’m sure we will be back for some winter sunshine.
