British Airways Launches Direct Flights to Saint Lucia

Your Winter Escape Just Got Easier

Donna Gilbert on 19 Mar 2026

Big news if you are already tired of the idea of another long, grey winter. From 25 October 2026, British Airways will launch a daily direct flight from London Gatwick to Saint Lucia. No stopovers, no complicated connections, just straight from drizzle to sunshine. With 51,000 additional seats added for the winter 2026/27 season, getting to one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful islands is about to become a lot easier. And frankly, a lot more tempting. If you have ever found yourself googling “winter sun destinations” while wearing three layers and still feeling cold, this might be your moment.

Why Saint Lucia in Winter?

Between October and March, Saint Lucia is exactly what the UK is not.

Expect temperatures hovering between 26 and 29 degrees, plenty of sunshine, and warm, calm seas that make you question why you ever tolerated cold water in the first place. It is the dry season, which means less humidity, more blue skies, and ideal conditions for doing absolutely everything or absolutely nothing.

Whether you want to lie on a beach with a book you will not finish, hike through rainforest, or convince yourself you are now the kind of person who enjoys snorkelling before breakfast, this is the time to go.

When to Travel for the Best Atmosphere

Saint Lucia is not just beaches and rum punch, although it does both very well. The island has a packed cultural calendar through the winter months, which gives you even more reason to plan your dates carefully.

October is all about culture. Creole Heritage Month takes over the island with food, music and local celebrations. The highlight is Jounen Kwéyòl, a full day of traditional dress, dancing and street parties. If you want to experience the real Saint Lucia, this is it.

November brings a shift in energy as the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers arrives. After crossing the ocean, yachts pull into Rodney Bay and the island comes alive with a lively, celebratory atmosphere. It is a great time to visit before peak season prices fully kick in.

December turns things festive, Caribbean style. The Festival of Lights and Renewal fills the island with lanterns, music and fireworks, while Christmas and New Year bring beachside celebrations, exceptional dining and a level of festive spirit that makes mulled wine feel slightly unnecessary.

January through March is when Saint Lucia quietly shows off. The weather is consistently sunny and dry, the sea is perfect, and everything just works. February is particularly popular with couples and honeymooners, while March offers the same conditions with a slightly more relaxed feel.

Where to Stay in Saint Lucia

We have direct contracts with some of the island’s best hotels, which means better rates, added value and the ability to match you with the right property rather than just the obvious one.

Jade Mountain is one of the most iconic hotels in the Caribbean. Its open-air sanctuaries quite literally remove the fourth wall, so your room flows straight into views of the Pitons. Private infinity pools, butler service and a design that makes you forget what day it is. Ideal for honeymoons or anyone who enjoys a bit of dramatic scenery with their morning coffee.

Anse Chastanet offers a more laid-back but equally special experience. Set within a vast tropical estate, it gives you access to two beaches and some of the best snorkelling on the island. It is relaxed, artistic and perfect if you like your luxury with a strong connection to nature.

BodyHoliday is where you go if you want to come back feeling like a new person. A daily spa treatment is included, along with a full programme of fitness, wellness and activities. You can do as much or as little as you like, but either way you will leave feeling better than when you arrived.

Cap Maison is boutique, stylish and quietly confident. It sits on a cliff with a secluded beach below and is particularly well known for its food. If your holiday priorities include excellent dining and a good glass of wine, this one tends to rise quickly to the top of the list.

Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort is a great all-rounder, especially for families or groups. With villa-style accommodation, plenty of space and a wide range of activities, it offers flexibility without losing that Caribbean feel.

StolenTime St Lucia is adults-only and all about switching off. It is calm, personal and designed for relaxation, with wellness programmes and a peaceful beachfront setting that encourages you to slow down properly.

The Landings Resort and Spa offers larger, suite-style accommodation in a marina setting, right on the beach and close to Rodney Bay’s restaurants and nightlife. It is a great option if you want space and convenience in equal measure.

Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort sits in what is arguably the most famous spot on the island, right between the Pitons. With a beautiful white sand beach, luxury villas and exceptional service, it delivers exactly what people picture when they think of the Caribbean.

What to Do Once You Are There

You can be as active or as horizontal as you like.

Visit the Pitons, explore the drive-in volcano, take a catamaran cruise at sunset, snorkel over coral reefs, or head into the rainforest to find waterfalls. Or, of course, you can simply stay exactly where you are, order another drink and call that a successful day.

Why Book Now

With new direct flights launching, demand is only going one way. More seats does not necessarily mean less demand, it just means more people will finally get around to booking that trip they have been talking about for years.

Booking early means better choice, better rates and a much higher chance of securing the dates you actually want, especially around Christmas and February.
