Our Family Cruise

Falling in love with Disney Cruise Line: My Magical Time on Disney Fantasy

Jackie Cox-Peel on 15 Sept 2025

As a big Disney fan, 2025 was always going to be a special year for me. I had the chance to sail on Disney Fantasy not once, but twice: first on my own, then again with my family by my side. After those two sailings, I can honestly say it has become my favourite cruise so far. There are lots of reasons why, but it all comes back to one thing: the magic really is everywhere.

The Magic Begins the Moment you Step On Board

From the moment you step onto a Disney cruise, you feel like you have stepped into a story. The welcome is so personal and theatrical, it genuinely feels like the ship is expecting you.

The attention to detail is incredible:

  • Beautiful Disney-inspired décor that feels elegant, not over the top
  • Thoughtful in-room amenities that make life easier, especially with children
  • Little touches and surprises tucked into corners all around the ship.

Nothing feels like an afterthought. Everything has been designed to make you smile.

Big Magic for Little Ones: Kids Clubs & Characters Everywhere

If your children love Disney, the ships are a dream come true.

The kids' clubs are huge, bright and packed with activities. My two adored them and, honestly  I struggled to get them out of them:

  • Amazing themed activities, like making slime with Stitch
  • Princesses popping in to read stories
  • Superheroes dropping by to visit
  • Dance parties with Mickey and Minnie

On top of that, you have:

  • Waterslides, splash zones and pools
  • Deck parties featuring your favourite Disney Characters
  • Sailaway parties and themed events that feel like a mini-parade at sea

Characters are everywhere on board, and the best part is: the waiting times to meet them are so much shorter than at the Disney theme parks. We met so many characters with very little queueing, which made such a difference to the overall experience.

Grown-Up Magic: Surprising Adult-Only Spaces

What really surprised me was just how good the adult-only areas are: Disney might be famous for families, but they have really thought about adults too:

  • Adult‑only game shows (not Disney themed), which are great fun and full of laughs
  • Live music and sophisticated bars with a very different feel to the rest of the ship
  • Beautiful, quieter spaces where you can properly unwind, like Adult-only pools, hot tubs and restaurants

My absolute favourite was Cove Café, the adult‑only coffee bar. You can get your favourite coffees, each topped with adorable Disney character art. There is a small extra charge for the drinks, but all the delicious pastries are complimentary. It became my little sanctuary on board.

These spaces still have subtle Disney touches, but they feel grown‑up and stylish, which I really appreciated.

What’s Included: Great Value Hidden Inside the Magic

Disney Cruise Line is not the cheapest to book, and I think it is important to be honest about that. But you really do get a lot included in your fare, which helps balance that out:

  • Free 24‑hour room service
  • Unlimited soft drinks, tea, coffee and ice cream
  • Large, spacious cabins many sleeping up to 5 people, which is brilliant for families

Then there is the rotational dining system, which I think is genius. From the start of your cruise, you are assigned a table and a team of servers. You then rotate each night through different themed restaurants, and your servers come with you. It means you get variety and atmosphere, but with the same familiar faces looking after you and learning your preferences. The food itself was some of the best I have had at sea. It is not all Mickey‑shaped (although the Mickey‑shaped treats are absolutely amazing!), but the overall quality and variety of dishes was fantastic

Show Time: Broadway‑Style Magic

Evenings on Disney Fantasy are a real highlight. The shows are on another level. I was lucky enough to see Frozen and Aladdin, both of which were unbelievable, plus a beautiful, original Disney show called Believe. Combined with deck parties and special events, the evenings feel like a West End theatre and a Disney celebration all rolled into one.

Looking Ahead: More Disney Magic on the Horizon

After my experiences on Disney Fantasy, I honestly cannot wait for more. I am already counting down to:

  • Disney Dream sailing from the UK in Summer 2026
  • Disney Wish  sailing from the UK in Summer 2027

The best part is that the magic is just a short journey away, without needing to fly long haul to experience that Disney feeling at sea.
