Upgrade Your Stay Without Costing You a Penny
Everyone loves a little extra luxury. A better view. A slightly bigger room. A thoughtful touch waiting on arrival. Those small upgrades can completely change how a trip feels.
As your travel consultant, one of the things I take pride in is making your stay feel more special, without automatically increasing the price, these are my top5 . Luxury does not always have to mean spending more. Often it means knowing what to ask for, when to book and who to speak to.
Here are five ways I try to enhance your stay, without it costing you a penny.
1. Checking for Room or Board Upgrades That Are Actually Worth It
Not all upgrades are equal.
Sometimes a “better” room category adds very little value. Other times, a small step up makes a huge difference to space, layout or view. I look closely at what each category really offers and whether there are promotional upgrades available that make sense.
If there is a genuine opportunity to enhance your experience without inflating the budget, I will find it.
2. Booking at Smarter Times
Luxury does not always have to come with peak pricing.
Travelling just outside peak dates or arriving midweek can often mean better availability and more generous room allocations. Hotels are naturally more flexible during quieter periods, which can work in your favour.
Timing is strategy. And that is something I am always considering behind the scenes.
3. Requesting Higher Floors or Better Views
It might sound simple, but it works.
A higher floor, a corner room, a better outlook. These are often requests rather than guarantees, but you would be surprised how often hotels are happy to accommodate when the booking is presented properly.
It is a small detail that can make a big difference to how the stay feels.
4. Using Concierge and On-Property Relationships
Concierge teams know what is happening in the hotel. They know which rooms are free, which experiences are worth booking and what little extras can be arranged.
When possible, I communicate requests in advance and ensure special touches are noted. That might mean a complimentary treat, a better positioned room or simply insider advice that enhances your stay.
These touches do not show up on comparison sites, but they matter.
5. Highlighting Special Occasions
If you are travelling for a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon or even just a well deserved celebration, I always mention it.
Hotels genuinely enjoy recognising special moments. A small gesture such as a dessert plate, a bottle of something chilled or a handwritten note can elevate the entire experience.
It costs nothing to ask, and it can mean everything when you arrive.
Of course, I do not share every trick I use. There is a reason clients choose to book with me rather than clicking the first price they see online.
But what I can promise is this. I will always do my best to request the details that matter to you, whether that is a quiet room, a specific pillow type, a surprise for someone special or something a little quirky that makes your trip feel personal.
The difference between a standard stay and a memorable one often comes down to the details.
If you are thinking about your next holiday and would like someone quietly working behind the scenes to enhance it, I would love to help.
