Top Honeymoon Destinations For 2026
February is peak planning season for newly engaged couples, and if you are getting married in 2026, now is the perfect time to start dreaming about your honeymoon. Whether you picture white-sand beaches with cocktails at sunset, once-in-a-lifetime adventures, or a chic city break with rooftop views, there are some clear front‑runners for 2026 honeymoons.
As a Travel Counsellor, I specialise in tailoring trips around each couple, so think of this as your honeymoon mood board, designed to get the ideas flowing.
Your honeymoon will likely be the most special and memorable trip you take together, so it should feel completely personal to you. With that in mind, here are five top trending honeymoon destinations for 2026, along with who they’re best suited for and when to go.
1. Maldives: Barefoot Luxury & Overwater Villas
Ideal for: Couples craving pure relaxation, privacy, and a true “once‑in‑a‑lifetime” escape.
Powder-soft white beaches, turquoise lagoons, and overwater villas with steps straight into the ocean. Think private pool villas, in-villa breakfasts, sunset cruises, spa rituals for two, and snorkelling with reef fish and turtles. Once you land, everything slows right down: private speedboat or seaplane transfers, personalised service, and no need to think about anything more stressful than which sunbed to choose.
Great for:
- Switching off completely after organising your wedding
- Minimal travel once you arrive on your island
- Spa lovers and couples who want all-inclusive, high-end dining and drinks
Perfect if: You want to wake up each day and have the hardest decision be pool, beach, or spa, with the option of upgrading to business class flights or private transfers for a truly elevated start and end to your honeymoon.
Best time to visit: Typically November to April, which works perfectly for winter and early-spring honeymoons with calm seas and plenty of sunshine.
2. Bali & Indonesia: Culture, Romance & Great‑Value Luxury
Ideal for: Couples who want stunning hotels alongside culture, nature, and incredible food.
Bali and the surrounding Indonesian islands offer a wonderful mix of romance and adventure. Explore rice terraces, tranquil temples, and infinity pools overlooking jungle ravines. A multi-centre itinerary works beautifully: start in Ubud for culture, spa time, and jungle views, then head to Seminyak or one of the nearby islands for beach and sunset cocktails.
Great for:
- Couples who love exploring by day and romantic dinners by night
- Those who like the idea of private pool villas without the price tag of some other long-haul destinations
- Spa days, yoga classes, waterfall visits and even a touch of nightlife if you want it
Perfect if: You want more than just a beach: think waterfalls, cooking classes, yoga, sunset cocktails, and private pool villas that still feel surprisingly good value.
Best time to visit: Generally May to October, ideal if you are planning a late-spring, summer or early-autumn wedding and want reliable weather for exploring.
3. Italy & the Mediterranean: Chic, Romantic & Closer to Home
Ideal for: Couples who prefer not to fly long‑haul and love food, wine, and scenery.
From the Amalfi Coast and Lake Como to the Greek Islands, Croatia, and the South of France, the Mediterranean is full of effortlessly romantic spots. Stay in boutique hotels, vineyards, or clifftop properties, or even go island hopping. Travel at a slower pace so long lunches, wandering historic streets, and wine tastings become part of the experience.
Great for:
- Spring or autumn weddings, when shoulder-season weather is ideal and the crowds are lighter
- Foodies who want to linger over fresh seafood, local wines and gelato
- Couples who enjoy exploring charming towns and coastal paths
Perfect if: You imagine clinking glasses at a cliffside restaurant as the sun sets over the sea, with cobbled streets, little wine bars, and stylish boutique hotels to retreat to at the end of the day. It is also ideal if you are considering a mini-moon with plans for a longer trip later.
Best time to visit: April to June and September to October, when the weather is warm, the light is beautiful, and many coastal areas are a little quieter than in peak summer.
4. Japan: Stylish, Cultural & Unforgettable
Ideal for: Couples who want something truly different and love food, culture, and cities.
Japan offers an extraordinary blend of ultra-modern and deeply traditional. Experience Tokyo’s neon skyline, Kyoto’s temples, and Hakone’s hot springs with views of Mount Fuji. Try private tea ceremonies, sushi-making classes, and sleek bullet-train journeys that turn travel days into part of the adventure.
Great for:
- Couples who enjoy a mix of urban energy and tranquil cultural experiences
- Food lovers who want to try everything from ramen bars to Michelin-starred dining
- Tech fans, culture enthusiasts and those who love beautiful gardens and design
Perfect if: You want your honeymoon to feel like an adventure, with every day bringing a new discovery: tiny ramen bars, tranquil gardens, hidden shrines, and stylish hotels.
Best time to visit: Spring for cherry blossom (a real bucket-list experience) and autumn for colourful foliage and comfortable temperatures, both perfect for a memorable honeymoon.
5. South Africa with Mauritius or Seychelles: Adventure Meets Beach
Ideal for: Couples who want both excitement and relaxation in one trip.
Start with a safari in a private game reserve: sunrise game drives, sundowners in the bush, and romantic lodges with outdoor showers and star-filled skies. Then fly to Mauritius or the Seychelles for soft white beaches, crystal-clear waters, and luxurious resorts where you can slow down and relive your safari memories over cocktails.
Great for:
- Wildlife lovers and foodies
- Couples who do not want to sit still for the entire trip
- Those who want a real “wow factor” itinerary that feels like two honeymoons in one
Perfect if: You cannot choose between adventure and relaxation. Track the Big Five on safari, then unwind on a beach with a cocktail in hand, perhaps finishing with a private catamaran cruise, spa day or romantic dinner under the stars.
Best time to visit: This depends slightly on your exact safari region and island, but it often pairs beautifully with late-spring, summer and early-autumn weddings. I can tailor this around your dates so you get good conditions in both destinations.
My Multi Centre Honeymoon Experience
When it came to my own honeymoon in June 2022, we waited a year after our wedding and created a multi‑centre trip that felt completely us.
We started with a few nights in Las Vegas for bright lights, unforgettable fountain views, and a Grand Canyon helicopter trip. From there, we flew to Mexico for all‑inclusive beach time, pure luxury with fantastic dining and amazing cocktails, before finishing in New York for skyline sunsets and classic sightseeing.
What I loved most was how each stop offered something different: high‑energy fun in Vegas, total relaxation in Mexico, and that iconic tourist buzz in New York. It reinforced just how important it is to design a honeymoon around your personalities, rather than following a one‑size‑fits‑all template.
That experience really shaped how I view honeymoons. I’m passionate about helping couples combine destinations - whether that’s city and beach, safari and island, or a relaxed road trip with a few carefully chosen stops - to create something truly unique.
