My Stay at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

Conrad Rangali Island

Megan Gilsenan on 26 Jan 2026

At the end of January I was lucky enough to visit the beautiful Conrad Maldives Rangali Island to properly experience everything the resort has to offer my clients. I always say there is no substitute for seeing somewhere for yourself, and this trip really reminded me why this hotel is so special.

As there were no direct options from Manchester, I chose to fly from London Heathrow Airport with Virgin Atlantic. The flight was really comfortable, the service was great and I even managed to get some sleep which is always a win on an overnight flight.

We landed in the Maldives around lunchtime and from that moment the Conrad experience really began.

The Conrad Private Lounge and Seaplane Transfer.

After landing we were taken to the Conrad private lounge at the seaplane terminal, which was such a lovely first impression. We were greeted with welcome drinks and invited to choose from a set menu. I went for a chicken Caesar salad and a fruit platter which was exactly what I fancied after travelling. There are shower facilities in the lounge so I freshened up and changed into lighter clothes ready for the seaplane. About an hour and a half later we boarded with around eight other guests. Everyone was given a bottle of water and a Conrad fan which was a thoughtful touch. The seaplane journey itself was incredible. Seeing the different islands scattered below and the amazing shades of blue in the water is something I will never forget. It really sets the tone for what is to come.

Arrival and Our Beach Villa

When we arrived at the resort we were welcomed by the team with fresh coconut water. As check in had already been done at the seaplane terminal, we were taken straight to our villa by golf buggy which made everything feel so easy. We stayed in a Deluxe Beach Villa with a private pool and it was just amazing. The villa is huge at 300 square metres with direct beach access, its own private pool and an open air shower in a secluded courtyard at the back. It felt incredibly private and spacious and would be perfect for couples wanting luxury but also plenty of space to relax.

First Evening at Vilu

After settling in we headed to the Quiet Zone for a pre dinner drink and watched the sun begin to set. That evening we ate at Vilu, the Italian restaurant on the beach. Dining so close to the water with the sound of the waves in the background was such a lovely way to spend our first night. The food was fantastic and the service was spot on, friendly and attentive without ever feeling too much.

The next morning we returned to Vilu for breakfast. There is an à la carte menu as well as a continental selection. Sitting by the sea with my morning coffee watching little crabs wander across the sand was one of those simple Maldives moments that just makes you smile.

Lunch at Ithaa Undersea Restaurant

Late that morning we made our way to Ithaa Undersea Restaurant for a five course lunch. This was such a special experience. Conrad is home to the first underwater restaurant in the Maldives and dining beneath the sea really does feel surreal.

As we ate, reef fish drifted past and we even saw sharks swimming above us. The food was beautiful but honestly it is the setting that makes this unforgettable. I would recommend this to anyone staying here.

Overwater Spa Experience

After lunch we visited the spa and were welcomed with cool towels before being taken to our overwater treatment villa. Having a massage while listening to the water gently moving beneath you is pure relaxation. The therapists were wonderful and I would absolutely recommend booking a treatment during your stay.

Dinner at Ufaa

That evening we went for dinner at Ufaa which blends Chinese cuisine with a calm Maldivian setting. We sat on a deck on stilts amongst the trees overlooking the sunset and it really was stunning. Watching the sky change colour while enjoying such a lovely meal made it another highlight of the trip.

Breakfast at Atoll Market

The following morning we tried the alternative breakfast location, Atoll Market, which is on the second island. There is indoor and outdoor seating and of course we chose to sit outside with our feet in the sand looking out to sea. I absolutely loved that.

The variety of food here really surprised me. There was everything from continental options and an egg station to sushi, curries and even a chilled room filled with fresh juices, fruit, cold meats and ice cream. There truly was something for everyone.

Swimming with Turtles and Nurse Sharks

Later that morning we headed to the dive centre for our turtle snorkelling excursion. There were only three other guests on the boat which made it feel very personal.

After about 30 minutes cruising we stopped to snorkel. The coral was full of colourful fish and then we were lucky enough to swim alongside a turtle which was such a special moment.

Our guide then took us to another island where we entered the water again and saw around 15 nurse sharks swimming just metres away from us. It was an incredible experience and one I feel very lucky to have had.

Exploring the Islands and Facilities

During our stay we were also given a full tour of both islands, which I absolutely loved as it meant I could properly understand all the different options for my clients.

We visited every room category including the overwater villas, which are just as dreamy as you imagine. Seeing the differences between the beach villas and the water villas really helps when advising which would suit different types of travellers.

We also visited the spa, the art gallery and the kids club.

The art gallery was such a lovely surprise. Guests can actually book lessons with the two resident artists whose work is displayed there, which I thought was such a unique touch and something completely different to the usual Maldives experience.

The kids club was also fantastic. It offers a great activity schedule for children staying on the island and has an outdoor playground and splash area which would be perfect for families. It is definitely a resort that works beautifully for couples but also genuinely caters well for families too.

Final Dinner at Sunset Grill

For our final evening we dined at Sunset Grill. The restaurant sits over the water and as we enjoyed our meal we could see fish and small sharks swimming below us. The setting was beautiful and it felt like the perfect way to end the trip.

Departure Morning

Our last morning came around far too quickly. After a relaxed breakfast we were collected for our seaplane transfer back to the airport. Flying over the islands again gave me time to reflect on what an amazing few days it had been.

What I Loved Most

The staff really stood out to me. We met so many returning guests and almost all of them said they come back because of the team. Everyone was so welcoming, greeted us by name and genuinely wanted to make sure we were having the best time.

The food offering is also fantastic. With around 12 restaurants there is so much choice and the quality throughout was consistently excellent.

And finally, the layout of the two islands is just right. Big enough to explore and have variety, but not so big that it feels overwhelming.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and would confidently recommend it to couples, honeymooners and anyone looking for a luxury Maldives experience with incredible service and unforgettable moments.

If you are thinking about the Maldives and would like honest advice from someone who has experienced it first hand, I would love to help you plan it.
