Stepping Aboard Norwegian Prima

Mimi Ronald on 22 June 2025
On the 22nd of June, I had the absolute pleasure of spending the day aboard Norwegian Prima while she was docked in Southampton – and let me tell you, this ship is every bit as stunning in person as she is in the brochures.

Prima is Norwegian Cruise Line’s first ship in their new Prima Class, and she’s got a truly impressive pedigree. She was launched in 2022 with a spectacular naming ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland – a first for the cruise industry – and christened by none other than global superstar Katy Perry, who serves as her glamorous godmother. The ship is designed to offer guests more space, more style, and more experiences at sea – and from the moment I stepped onboard, I could see exactly what that means.

She carries just over 3,000 guests and stretches across 20 beautiful decks, but it never felt crowded or overwhelming. The design is light, airy, and sophisticated, with gorgeous touches of European elegance throughout.

The Haven: A World Apart One of the true highlights of Prima – and something I always recommend for clients wanting an elevated experience – is The Haven. This is Norwegian’s exclusive “ship-within-a-ship” concept, and it’s truly a luxurious hideaway. Tucked away at the top of the ship, The Haven offers its 104 suites a completely private and serene space, with its own infinity pool, sun deck, restaurant, and bar, all reserved for Haven guests only.

There’s a concierge, 24-hour butler service, and priority everything – from boarding and tendering to restaurant reservations. It’s the ideal spot if you want the amenities of a large ship but the feel of a boutique resort. And what’s lovely is that when you book The Haven, you automatically receive NCL’s “More at Sea” package included – a brilliant value with premium drinks, speciality dining, Wi-Fi, and excursion credit all bundled in.

More at Sea – What Does It Mean? Norwegian’s More at Sea offering is a game changer. It’s included on most sailings and really allows you to relax knowing that so much is already taken care of. Guests get access to:

Unlimited premium beverages Speciality dining credits Wi-Fi Shore excursion discounts Plus photo and experience savings

It’s a fantastic way to take the guesswork out of onboard costs and just focus on enjoying the experience.

For the Fun-Seekers Now, it’s not all about luxury on Prima – there’s loads of fun for families, couples, and adrenaline junkies alike. There are some brilliant features onboard, including several multi-story slides, a huge water park, and even crazy golf.

One of the biggest talking points is the Prima Speedway – a proper go-kart track at sea that wraps around the ship. Fun fact: Orlando Bloom currently holds the lap record! (Yes, that Orlando Bloom.) There’s also a VR gaming zone, laser tag, and multiple swimming pools – so whether you’re 8 or 80, there’s something to keep you entertained.

Adults-Only Escapes For those looking for a peaceful spot to unwind, there’s The Vibe Beach Club, a gorgeous adults-only retreat complete with hot tubs, plush loungers, and a stylish bar. It’s not included in the standard cruise fare, but it's well worth the extra cost – just be sure to book early, as it’s very popular and space is limited.

Dining – A Culinary Journey As someone who loves a good meal (and helping my clients find theirs!), I was thrilled by the dining options onboard. Norwegian Prima really takes things up a notch. There’s the Indulge Food Hall, a brilliant mix of international food stalls where you can try everything from Indian curries to BBQ to poke bowls – all in one place.

I also had a peek into some of the speciality venues like: Palomar, a stunning Mediterranean seafood restaurant Onda by Scarpetta, offering modern Italian cuisine Nama, a sleek sushi and sashimi bar And Los Lobos, which brings a fine dining twist to Mexican classics (I love the alebrijes models outside, my photo doesn't do them justice)

The main dining rooms, Hudson’s and The Commodore Room, are stylish and refined, with panoramic ocean views that make every meal feel a little bit special.

Bars with Personality As for the bars, they are dotted throughout the ship, each with its own vibe. I loved the Metropolitan Bar, which focuses on sustainability and eco-conscious cocktails – such a refreshing idea. The Observation Lounge is perfect for a quieter moment with stunning views, and there are plenty of lively options if you're in the mood for something more upbeat.

Final Thoughts All in all, my day onboard Norwegian Prima left me truly impressed. She’s modern, spacious, and full of thoughtful touches that cater to every kind of traveller – whether you’re a family looking for action, a couple seeking romance, or someone craving the indulgence of The Haven.

If you're curious about cruising or looking for your next adventure at sea, I’d love to help you plan it. Prima really does offer "More at Sea"(!), and I can’t wait to help you experience it for yourself.
