Long Weekend in Doha
I found myself comparing it to Dubai, but don’t it has its own personality, an amazing culture, atmosphere and bursting with colour, it is relaxed, friendly but also reserved as their local culture shines through, us ladies need to cover shoulders and knees when in the Museum and Souk, but to be honest I would dress adhere to these rules when going out and about out of respect,
There are many places to visit and experience,
- Souq Waqif – Doha oldest market place - Dhow Harbour - Katara Cultural Village - The Pearl - Qatar National Museum - Meryal Water Park - Desert Safari to the inland Sea - Doha Beach club - And more…………………….
It is popular with UK and international tourists, it is Luxurious and opulent but without being too flashy and I can say I fell in love with Doha, it is perfect for families, couples as a single centre destination or as part of a stop over when flying with Qatar Airway due to their diverse flight network, eg the Maldives, Far East and Australia,
Here are a few things I learnt and surprised me during my stay - Its only 10% Qatari and 90% ex pats - It’s a really new Destination the International Hamad Airport is only 10yrs old - Hamad Airport is one of the most modern/easy hubs in the world & even has its own orchard - Although it is a dry state, alcohol is still served in licenced hotels, restaurants and bars at the top of tower blocks - It is not customary to tip - Uber is easy and cheap to use - You can travel totally cash less if you want to - They still smoke indoors – this took some getting used to - It is not customary to Tip - It is cheaper than Dubai for Drinks, Taxis and dinning
What did I love, the luxury without being pretentious, the beach clubs, the sights, the weather was amazing, albeit a tad hot in September for sightseeing but perfect in our winter months, the great food and friendly people.
Would I go back : Yes I would 100%
Who would I recommend too : Everyone, it is perfect for a short stop on route somewhere else or the perfect Winter sun destination for a single centre holiday with sunshine & culture
