My Winter escape to Gran Canaria.
While the UK shivers under grey skies, I opted to escape it for a week in Gran Canaria.
Winter sun in Gran Canaria is closer than you think
While the UK shivers under grey skies ran Canaria is basking in warm, golden light. Sitting just off the coast of North Africa, this Canary Island enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year and wonderfully mild winter temperatures, often in the low to mid 20s during the day. It means you can be sipping a coffee on a sunny terrace or strolling along the promenade in a T‑shirt while it is still very much winter at home. In the south of the island, resorts such as Maspalomas and Meloneras are particularly popular for winter sun. This area is known for its broad sandy beaches, elegant seafront promenade and the famous Maspalomas sand dunes, a protected natural area that gives the coastline a desert‑meets‑ocean feel. The south also tends to be the warmest and sunniest part of Gran Canaria, which makes it an excellent choice for a short break or a longer escape. Gran Canaria offers a wide range of places to stay, from stylish beachfront hotels with ocean views and spa facilities, to relaxed family resorts with pools, kids’ clubs and plenty of activities nearby. Recently I have arranged winter escapes for my customers to two beautiful Maspalomas hotels: Seaside Palm Beach and Lopesan Costa Meloneras, both set in the island’s upmarket, laid‑back south coast, close to the beach, restaurants and coastal walks. If you are dreaming of a winter escape to the Canary Islands, I can help you choose the right resort, the right hotel and plan the little touches such as private transfers, room upgrades or special occasion dinners, so everything feels seamless from the moment you leave home.
