My Week In Tunisia Over Easter

Gemma Favager on 07 April 2023
I was invited, alongside my family to go an experience Tunisia courtesy of the Tunisian tourist board over the Easter holidays.

Tunisia was traditionally a very popular destination for us brits but flights to the country dwindled and with it, the countries popularity. Now, Easyjet have regular flights it is most definitely on the up and is proving very popular with my clients who have also been out there recently.

We stayed at the stunning 5* Les Orangers Gardens and Villas.

The feeling of calm that envelops you as you enter the hotel runs through every inch of its perfect grounds. In fact, the manicured grounds are some of the most impressive I have stayed in. The sand on the beach is the softest sand I have ever put my feet on it is more like a powder than a grain and is just lovely.

The service is attentive without being intrusive (I love beach and pool service ) and every single member of staff you meet is friendly and happy.

We enjoyed time in the two outdoor pools (one is a fabulous infinity pool overlooking the beach) as well as the heated indoor pool in the wellness centre. Each adult gets a complimentary massage which was another nice touch to really get you into the relaxed holiday vibe!

The food we enjoyed whilst here was, simply put delicious!!!

The main buffet restaurant is one of the best I have ever experienced. There are live cooking stations offering something different every day.

Breakfast offered everything you could want and more including freshly made crepes, pancakes, waffles, (my two boys were in heaven!) as well as made to order eggs. Lunch and Dinner always had wonderful fresh fish and there were always lots of other choices including freshly made noodles, sushi, pasta, and salads. The list goes on.

The pizza was unbelievable and highly recommended and you could order any combination you wanted. Again, this was made to order so super tasty.

We could also order from the A La Carte menu and choose from traditional Tunisian food which we all enjoyed trying, as well as Mediterranean or Italian.

Plus....the main bar is open 24/7 and you can order anything you would like from here, anytime of day. My eldest had a burger from here whilst he was chilling by the pool and said it was one of the best he'd ever had.

One thing for sure is you will not go hungry! The food really was amazing.

At the beautiful 5* Les Orangers Garden Villas & Bungalows everything is super chilled, but if you need a little more going on then the 4* Les Orangers Beach Resort next door is just a stones throw away.

It has more things to do if that’s what you’d like and is open to all guests from the 5* resort, including a shop, kids club, lively evening entertainment, tennis, ping pong, archery, salsa dancing, pool aerobics etc, and pétanque! You can also avail of the food choices here as well. This also has a food van offering paninis and sub sandwiches as well as more pizza!!

We all enjoyed horse rising on the beach, so much so that we did it twice (stables behind the Beach Resort) and camel riding high in the hills.

There is so much to experience in this region and there is a lot of history including fascinating Carthage which is circa one hour away.

We also went haggling in the Hammamet Medina. It is a labyrinth of shops selling everything from beautiful leather bags, gold, incense and replica designer goods plus so much more! I'm not sure I'm any good at bartering (too British?) but my boys enjoyed watching it all happen. It is very clean and we all felt totally safe

As well as standard hotel rooms Les Orangers Garden Villas & Bungalows also offers villas & bungalows in the grounds.

These two story units have large terraces and roof top space, with their own private shared pool area and pool bar. Some of the villas are beach front and some have their own private pools. Perfect for families or a longer stay The Bungalows have a private restaurant keeping with the more secluded, private experience they provide.

As you have most likely gathered we all had an absolutely amazing time.

The team who work here are all so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. No, it is a word they definitely do not want to use. Tunisia is not somewhere that was really ever on my radar, but boy has that changed! The days we enjoyed out of the hotel gave us a glimpse into local life.

Whilst they are keen to get you into their shops in the Medina, they are not aggressive but be prepared for some good haggling (remember this is part of their culture). Not once, at any point of the holiday, did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe, and my children felt the same too.

In short, this will not be our last time in Tunisia. There is so much more history and culture for us to experience, and it offers an excellent alternative for some winter sunshine or a fabulous summer break!
