One of the most beautiful cities in the exquisite Rhone-Alps region of France, cosmopolitan Chambery is famous for being an epicentre of exciting activities. Once the capital of historical Savoy, this stunning destination has a flavour that marries the different cultures of France, Italy and Switzerland - so it’s perfect for those seeking a diverse travel experience. The largest Alpine ski region in Europe is within easy reach for those with a penchant for snow sports, and there’s plenty of tranquil scenery to soak up thanks to the close proximity of France’s largest lake: Lac du Bourget. Want to experience this charming region for yourself then what are you waiting for?

Overview of Chambery....

A rugged and beautiful region, Chambery has only been part of France since the 19th Century so you can expect to feast your eyes on a vision of Italian and Swiss architecture within the main town. Wealthy and grandiose, this is a brilliant location if you want to experience premier French Ski Resorts as well as high-end shopping opportunities and well-ingrained local nuances.

The plethora of magnificent mountains, alpine lakes and glorious gardens makes Chambery perfect for year-round alfresco exploring. Famous for being a stone’s throw from the French Alps, you can partake in sports including skiing, snowboarding and sledding, in glorious wintry surrounds because Chambery boasts Europe’s most reliable snow. Whether you’re looking to enjoy sailing on one of the glistening lakes or an energetic skiing holiday, this brilliant Alpine destination has plenty to offer for those wanting a recreational break in rural surrounds.

Restaurants and nightlife in Chambery....

Chambery's old town rewards the stroller with cobbled alleys lined with restaurants and bars. Here you can shut out the cold and reinforce yourself with Chambéry’s finest – fondue Savoyard – bread dipped in a blend of melted cheeses, white wine and kirsch. There are also plenty of vibrant vineyards to explore in the area. Whilst quiet in winter, during the summer months visitors can book tastings and explore at their leisure.

Shopping in Chambery....

If you’re seeking shopping opportunities among your itinerary of activities, Chambery offers a brilliant public market that is open at the weekends. You can purchase a glut of delicious, locally produced food and drink including wine, cheese and meat. Nearby ski resorts offer all the winter sports paraphernalia you could ever need, as well as ski and snowboard rental if you’re flying into the region for winter sports.

Events and attractions around Chambery....

Many people book flights to Chambery to visit the ever-popular winter sports heaven Val d’Isere. This scenic town draws the crowds for snowboarding, skiing and glacier walking. One of the region’s highest resorts, you can usually ski here until late in the season. If you're staying in the city, be sure to check out Fontaine des Éléphants. Literally, 'The Elephant Fountain', it features four life-size elephants at its base. The Château de Chambéry is also worth a visit as the administrative base of the region often holds concerts and tours.
