Guest Blog from Heather Kingdon on Trip to Tromso

I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights, so when Katrina mentioned Tromso in Norway I was immediately interested.

My daughter and I set off on Friday 25th November on a Norwegian Airlines flight and were so excited when they announced on the tannoy that they would soon be turning off the cabin lights as the Northern Lights would be appearing on the left hand side of the plane – and that’s where we were!

This was an absolutely wonderful trip - in fact everything worked for us from the Northern Lights to Whale Watching! The Clarion Aurora Hotel was amazing - lovely staff, clean and comfortable rooms and complimentary waffles, tea and coffee each afternoon and also complimentary light evening meal. Breakfast was generous and plentiful.

I would recommend getting the cable car which runs from Sollivien up to the mountain ledge in a very short time. At the top you can enjoy views of Tromso and the surrounding mountains and fjords. You feel like you are on top of Norway!

The Northern Lights were amazing - it's so difficult to really capture what we saw by camera - you just cannot appreciate the wonderment of seeing these shapes and vague colours moving across the sky. It was a wonderful trip and the blizzard on the way home was the icing on the cake!

To round off a wonderful weekend we went whale watching and were so glad we did. We saw Orcas galore, lots of humpbacks and sea eagles. Just an amazing feeling being surrounded by whales and because we were in a rib, we were their level. I would thoroughly recommend this trip. Thank you Katrina Smith
