Wild Mornings & Coastal Charm

Today started really early like 5 a.m. early! But honestly, when you’re headed into Yala National Park, there’s no such thing as too early. We grabbed our packed breakfasts (thank you, hotel!) and hopped into our 7-seater jeep, excitement buzzing through the air.

The park was alive. We zipped along dusty tracks, spotting kingfishers, soaring eagles, and of course, elephants lazily making their way through the bush. Crocodiles peeked from the water with that perfect “don’t mess with me” stare. And then… the moment we’d all been holding our breath for: not one, but TWO leopards! Hidden in the shade at first, sleek and powerful, watching them was nothing short of magical. I honestly didn’t think my heart could beat any faster it was a safari experience I’ll never forget.

After our wild morning, it was time to swap the bush for the coastline. A scenic 3-hour drive brought us to The Fortress Hotel in Galle, where we enjoyed a delicious lunch overlooking the sparkling ocean . The waves, the salty breeze, made it feel like a little slice of paradise.

For the night, we checked into The Fort Bizzarre, a boutique gem tucked inside Galle’s historic fort. Lantern-lit streets, lively local bars, vibrant shops, and cozy restaurants — it’s the perfect place to wander and get lost in the city’s charm. There’s something special about the old fort walls, the cobbled streets, and the way history seems to whisper from every corner.

From the wild heart of Yala to the coastal elegance of Galle, today was pure magic. Every moment from leopards in the wild to ocean views at lunch reminded me why Sri Lanka never fails to amaze.
