River Cruise with Teens

River cruise with teens

There is a perception that river cruise is for a certain age group. Whilst slow travel is perfect for those already retired & perhaps already appreciating a slower pace of life, it’s not an exclusive to any age bracket.

Summer 2022 I got to test this by travelling on the luxury river cruise line, Uniworld, with my 14-year-old daughter – Lola. Some thought Lola would be by far the youngest on board & it perhaps was not suitable for teens, it was in fact perfect & Lola was not the only kid on board. There were a couple of other teens & younger children too, one family had their baby onboard. The fact that it was a summer holiday sailing made this cruise appeal more to other families, some travelling with grandparents too, most sailors were 50 plus. The under 18s were extremely well behaved.

River cruise a perfect way to explore a region or multiple cities, without the need to unpack & transfer in between, it is all taken care of – like Ocean Cruises, but much smaller vessels that can sail into the heart of the cities, think waking up in the most comfortable bed to the most spectacular ever changing view.

We were lucky to be sailing onboard S.S La Venezia, with a maximum capacity of only 126 guests, this is a luxury boutique hotel which happens to be on the river – which for our location – Venice & the Jewels of Venice, is one of the most incredible ways to explore the Venetian Lagoon & Po River. Now that Ocean Cruises are not permitted to sail into the lagoon, it feels like an extra special treat & more exclusive than ever.

Uniworld is fully inclusive with freshly prepared locally sourced food, gala dinners, unlimited premium drinks & carefully curated shore excursions, we experienced a before opening private tour of Doge’s Palace, a private after hours visit to Saint Mark’s Basilica & so much more.

My highlight of the trip was exploring one of the most historical, beautiful cities in the world with my daughter & meeting some lovely guests onboard. Lola’s was the Savoir Mattress, the food onboard, the hot chocolate station & getting to take popcorn & treats back to our room & watch a movie with views of glorious Venice outside our cabin.

Memories made to last a lifetime.
