Halki Diary: Celebrating Mum's 70th Birthday

I am currently on the beautiful Greek island of Halki, a place that's close to my Mum’s heart. We're here to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday – as it's her absolute favourite spot in the world.

Family Time on a Charming Island - Joining me on this adventure are my beautiful sisters: Beth, Jay and Ishbel. Halki's got that traditional charm and loads of bars, restaurants, and little shops by the harbour. Yesterday we found a delightful little jewellery shop called Queen of Halki, we all walked out of there with a new item of jewellery to add to our collections.

Clear Waters and a Little Oopsie - Our apartments are right on the harbour wall and by the sea. The water's so clear you can see what's happening down there, like 15 to 20 feet below. But I had a run-in with a sea urchin, right on my toe. Local folks recommended antibiotic cream, vinegar to dissolve the spines and olive oil to fix me up. Lesson learned – I'm wearing my trusty water shoes from now on.

Flamingo Drama - Our trip took an unexpected turn when a gust of wind decided to snatch three of our giant inflatable flamingos and tossed them into the harbour. Panic city! But luckily, a kind guy brought two of them back, and a passing boat saved the third. We've got those flamingos locked down now!

Getting to Halki - To get here, we hopped on a plane from Manchester to Rhodes, then took a taxi to Kamiros Scala, and finally, a 50-minute ferry ride got us to Halki. The journey itself was an adventure filled with anticipation.

Big Ship, Small Island - Last night, a massive cruise ship pulled into the harbour, giving our tiny island a touch of grandeur. It was quite a sight and reminded us of Halki's unique mix of peace and excitement.

Party Time! - We're counting down to the big birthday celebrations for Mum and Beth on Sunday and Monday. Love and togetherness are in the air, thanks to the beauty of Halki and its warm-hearted locals.

Cheers from Halki!
