Prague

Prague impressed me for many reasons, not least the fantastic buildings which were all so clean and well kept. The distinct lack of any birds flying around maybe had a lot to do with this, but even the streets were very tidy and I saw very little in the way of litter, and any there was, was quickly swept up and removed, I got the feeling that all the locals were very proud of their city and rightly so.

The city is full of theatres, museums and statues to tempt the avid culture seekers but even if opera or classical music is not your thing you cannot help be impressed by the statues and architecture that surrounds you wherever you walk.

My trip was with a group of lads on a ‘Stag Do’ but this did not prevent me from savouring a lot of what Prague can offer different types of tourist. I did not see many children around though. During the day many of the group was happy to sit in sports bars watching football whilst some of us were happy to stroll around and find bars and cafes have a few drinks and a spot of lunch whilst watching the world go by.

Come the evening then there are lots of dining options quite reasonably priced and a whole host of different types of bars to merry the night away. I have to say though that there are some not so salubrious establishments that do attract some stag party members and there is no shortage of spotters on the lookout for groups of males to escort to these ‘Clubs’ to earn a commission. Regular tourists though I’m happy to say were not targeted.

The weather was absolutely fantastic and this made the weekend even more enjoyable as we strolled over the famous Charles Bridge full of locals selling handmade products and others offering to capture your features in a caricature drawing we then came across some rather bizarre statues before stumbling across a charming fish restaurant on the riverside. My only regret is that I did not try one of the river boat cruises. All in all a great weekend trip.
