Short Break to Wales

We had a short break to Wales during July which I wanted to share as it is something closer to home for people who want a staycation. Normally finding a beach with miles of untouched sand during the school holidays is unheard of but it does exist.

We hired a cottage in a small village in mid Wales, which was 20 minutes from Aberystwyth and 10 minutes from Aberaeron.

We stopped very briefly for a coffee stop in Aberystwyth.

We went to Aberaeron to eat out one evening and loved how they paint their properties all different colours making it all very attractive.

However, our favourite place was NEW QUAY! It has a lovely couple of beaches, the small beach is well-maintained and has an on-duty lifeguard. Harbour Beach is also home to wildlife like seals & dolphins.

You can do Dolphin watching as tours depart from the Harbour or you could go crab hunting / fishing in the beautiful bay. There is a good choice of Fish and Chip shops, or small local restaurants dotted around. The sea was COLD – so I only managed a paddle as you do! – but it was a beautiful shade of Blue and so clear. Well worth a visit for a short break.
