Queen Mary 2 - ship visit

Caroline Howden on 21 July 2017
I was lucky enough to be invited in a small group of specialist cruise agents to spent time onboard Cunard's flag ship Queen Mary 2 on a grey July day in Southampton.

We were particularly fortunate to be able to see both Queens and Princess Grill cabins. Queen Mary 2 has recently had a major refit or Re Mastering as Cunard call it.

You can see the improvements that have been made, the ship is much lighter and brighte colours give a fresher more modern and contemporary feel.

The Grill cabins have their own restaurants and lounges where on they go but all other areas of this lovely looking ship are open to everyone.

This is a large ship and as you would expect there are numerous rooms onboard where you can spend time - from the Queens Room for anything from Afternoon Tea to Ballroom Dancing, the Canyon Ranch Spa, the G32 nightclub, the 2 tier Britannia Restaurant and the 2 tier Royal Theatre not forgetting the famous Planetarium which is also a 3D cinema. Many different bars and lounges offering a variety of styles from the traditional Commodore Club, Atlantic Room, or Carinthia Lounge or the Golden Lion Pub - somewhere for everyone.

It is a long time since I had seen Queen Mary 2, I was very impressed by the feel and atmosphere of the ship, yes she has some expensive cabins but for people like the finer things in life or for a special occasion what better way to celebrate than a Grill Cabin.

Queen Mary 2 will be on her 2018 world cruise from January to May followed by a variety of transatlantic crossing and a few other destinations including mini short breaks, Norwegian Fjords, USA & Canada and Northern Europe.
