Scenic River Cruise - Budapest to Vienna

Caroline Howden on 26 October 2016
I have recently returned from a short trip hosted by Scenic River Cruises. I was away with other Gold Travel Counsellors on a celebratory long weekend.

We flew to Budapest to join Scenic Jewel, one of Scenic's fleet of Space Ships. These are beautifully well appointed ships, up to 170 passengers, three decks, two restaurants and a spacious lounge and open air sun deck area plus a small spa.

The staff on board could not have done more for us, each cabin had their own butler to look after your every need. The cabin we had was a balcony suite with a very clever design - the front glass wall of the balcony folded down to open the balcony and then a glass door could be opened up to reveal the side of the cabin if you wanted to. A large wardrobe as well as a safe, mini bar and luxurious bathroom with fluffy robes and super L'Occitane toiletries plus a large shower.

Scenic are an all-inclusive river cruise product so drinks, all food, gratuities, Wi-Fi, laundry and excursions are included. The spa is extra.

We travelled from Budapest to Vienna which took around 24 hours and we were able to enjoy some of Budapest's sights. Sadly the weather wasn't brilliant but you could see what an impressive city is it. We chose to visit the Thermal Bath which was fascinating as well as invigorating. Others did a city tour or went to see the Hospital in the Rock or explored independently on the e-bikes that Scenic provide.

Onto Vienna, what a wonderful surprise that was. We were lucky with a lovely sunny day to see many of the city’s sights. We picked a trip to the world famous Spanish Riding School or you could see the Schonbrunn Palace or explore in your own time. In some ports Scenic offer Scenic Enrich - these are extra special exclusive events held ashore such as concerts, opera or ballet performances.

Food is well provided for on board in the main dining room or in the more informal River Café, when there is good weather dining can be taken up on deck.

The beauty of a river cruise is the slow pace of travel, the perfect way to see and enjoy the scenery often on both sides of the ship. You will also have the services of a cruise director to help and assist, local expert guides and local entertainers come on board some evenings.

Scenic has a range of destinations that they offer throughout Europe including France and Portugal, Russia and the Far East - new destinations are being looked at as we speak.

I can highly recommend river cruising with Scenic and their sister company Emerald. If you would like to know more just get in touch.
