Girly Weekend in Sorrento

Claire Walker on 20 April 2012
We chose Sorrento to celebrate a friends 40th birthday and we were not disappointed. We flew from Liverpool to Naples then took a private transfer along the winding coast road to Sorrento for a three night stay.

We stayed in a boutique hotel, Maison la Minervetta, a comfortable 10 minutes walk from the main square, Piazza Tasso, where we spent many afternoons watching the world go by. From the square there are lots of bars, restaurants and shops to choose from and the area is very quaint with narrow streets to wander through.

There is a vast range of restaurants and we found great ones off the beaten track but also a fantastic Michelin starred restaurant just off the main square - a real treat!

We took one of the many local ferries over to the island of Capri which depart every 30-45 minutes. This will cost you between 26 and 30 euros return, depending on the ferry company you use. Capri is a beautiful island with narrow streets and upmarket shops and restaurants. You can also get on the single chair lifts and skim over tree tops and gardens up to a height of almost 2000ft and take in the most fantastic views. If you are a good sailor, you can take a boat trip around the island and visit the Blue Grotto; but beware they are quite small boats.

There are lots of other places to visit such as Pompeii, Amalfi and Positano. However in three days we weren't able to fit everything in so we are already planning a return visit!
