Sintilating Singapore
My husband and I tagged Singapore on to the end of a dreamy beach holiday to Thailand. The city had the wow factor as soon as we stepped into the airport off the plane. Unfortunately, we did not have time to visit The Jewel so this is on our list the next time we visit which I hope will be soon!
We wanted to stay in a location that was central so we could walk everywhere as we absolutely love staying above ground on city breaks to take in the smells, the noise, the architecture and the sights. We stayed at The Mondrian Duxton in the vicinity of Chinatown. I’d recommend this hotel you want a rooftop pool with style, plenty of dining options in the hotel and surrounding area and it's luxury, modern feel. It’s trendy and Instagrammable. We did enjoy our stay here but there are so many other hotels in Singapore with more convenient locations to the main attractions near Marina Bay for example. We did spend hours walking which we didn’t mind but in the high heat it did get a bit much. Breakfast was okay; I’d describe it as functional. We stayed on a B&B basis but only ate breakfast at the hotel on one morning and ate outside the hotel the rest of the time as there was so much to choose from.
We packed in as much as we could into our short 3-night stay in Singapore. Highlights for us were walking onto the pit straight of the Formula 1 track and seeing the pit lane and garages (which we did for free on our first night there!), experiencing the views from the viewing deck of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Gardens by the Bay and the Cloud Forest/Flower Garden. For an adrenaline kick we did the Luge Adventure which was so much fun. You hop into a taboggan, you control the speed and you ride down these winding tracks of differing levels of difficulty! I was so nervous about it but man what a rush it was. Big smiles all round.
There is so much more to Singapore and I wish we had stayed longer. This just means we have a reason to return one day! Hopefully to watch the Singapore F1 Grand Prix.
I’ve been on several city breaks in Europe, in the US, the UK and Asia but Singapore has something that little bit special, and it certainly captured my heart. I would highly recommend including Singapore on a multi or twin-centre holiday. It is so easy to do because of the number of flights that go out of Singapore on a daily basis to different parts of the world.
My biggest learning point from visiting Singapore is there is a huge value to pre-booking your activities and excursions because we spent a lot of time queing in the blistering heat and crowds getting tickets. So if you book a Singapore trip with me, this is something I can offer to arrange for you and it will save you time, money and stress in the long term.
Come and talk to me about Singapore if you want to know more!
