Perfect Honeymoon Paradise

Katrina Smith on 24 January 2017
On 24th October 2016 my new wife and I set off for our honeymoon to Mauritius. Katrina had organised everything for us so we didn’t have any worries at all. She had even organised for us to use the Marhaba Lounge at Dubai airport whilst we were waiting in transit.

Mauritius was everything we expected, with its white sandy beaches, fabulous watersports and great hotels. We had an amazing time, staying at The Veranda Grand Baie Hotel, and one of the most memorable times was a fabulous romantic sunset dinner cruise for just the two of us with a live guitar player and Scottish country dancing to “Cheerleader” – yes amazing!

We tried to fit in as much as we could whilst there, visiting Pamplemouses Botanical Gardens, with the huge turtles and bats in the trees. They are the third oldest botanical gardens in the World and have beautiful exotic plants and trees to see. We went snorkelling where we saw manta rays and even cycling around the island (I hadn't been on a bike in over 10 years so was exhausted at the end of it, but it was so worth it.)

The staff at the hotel were excellent, they were so helpful. We enjoyed a traditional Mauritian dish or fried bread, which although not on the menu, if you ask for it, they will make it for you. Every time we ordered it, it came out different with a different drink or condiment with it. We especially liked the fried bread with salsa and hot tea (the fried bread with beer and sweet chillies was pretty good as well).

We were sad to say goodbye to Mauritius and Grand Baie, but married life and home beckoned.
