Can I Tease You To Try Malta?

A very early start from Gatwick gave us three full days in Malta and I regret to say it simply was not enough. Although a very small island you need a least a week. Our cram packed itinerary saw us visit nine hotels/resorts, a walking tour of the capital Valletta which included a history of Malta show and lunch in a fabulous restaurant called Nenu the Artisan Baker as well as a boat tour of Valletta’s harbours which I highly recommend.

Our host hotel was the Fortina Spa Resort in Sliema, famous for its wellness and spa facilities and frequented by the rich and famous such as Angelina Jolie. I was treated to a hot/cold stone massage which hit the spot. The resort also boasts six different a la carte restaurants as well as a separate pool bar and a panoramic view restaurant of Valletta right on the waterfront.

Families are well catered for at the Westin Dragonara in the resort of St. Julian’s. All the rooms are sea view and they have some great restaurants, we dined at Quadro and it was exquisite.

Not far from the Westin is the Hilton which does not let the brand name down at all. It has a good mix of classic and contemporary rooms, a huge gym, two squash courts, a 5 Senses Spa and a Toni & Guy salon as well as five restaurants and a great cocktail bar with a spacious terrace overlooking a yacht marina.

Corinthia Hotel in St. George’s Bay boasts 13 restaurants, offers free Wi-Fi and has its own scuba diving school. As Malta has been voted the third best place to dive behind the Maldives and the Red Sea then this might just be the place for you. For people considering diving for the first time a try dive is a very affordable 25 Euros.

The Dolmen resort at Qawra St. Paul’s Bay has a fabulous pool area and the rooms have great décor. With its own casino this place may well appeal to those who like a flutter or if you are into tennis then they have a couple of courts available.

The Intercontinental also flew the flag for the brand, it has access to a private beach area which is also blue flag and overlooking this waterside is Paranga restaurant where we were treated to an excellent lunch. Children under 14 go free to this resort on both B&B and half board, and with 40 interconnecting rooms and 14 family rooms this also caters very well for families. You get free Wi-Fi and depending on room type chosen you get free movies and can stream British TV direct to your screen as well as complimentary use of an I Pad for your stay.

The Phoenician is the oldest hotel on Malta steeped in history it is very grandiose with a fantastic lobby as well as a great pool and gardens area considering this is right in the centre of Valletta, you can get free Wi-Fi in public areas. The only boutique hotel we visited was Argento which is ideally situated for everything the St. Julian’s has to offer. It has a rooftop swimming pool and good views over the area. Only 74 very modern rooms but tastefully decorated.

I will definitely recommend Malta to a variety of different clients as it truly can please lots of different types of holiday maker. It is the second safest country in Europe. It has great nightlife for younger clients who want to nightclub, fantastic choices for food lovers, and great for Scuba and very interesting for the history buffs, and if Spa treatments tick your box you will not be disappointed. On top of all this you can fly to Malta from 18 different UK airports and it is only 3-3.5 hours flying time.

If you would like any more detailed information on any of the hotels I have visited, please drop me a line. Thanks for taking the time to read.
