What Happens In Vegas...............

On entering the Hotel Bellagio I was amazed at the size of the reception area even the concierge desk had 6 people manning it. Until you actually visit Vegas yourself it’s hard to imagine just how busy all the hotels are. Hotels is probably not the best way to describe them, more resorts or a complex. As the week progressed the Bellagio grew on me and I got used to the constant ebb and flow of people checking in and out, same goes for all the other hotels I visited from the Mandalay Bay at the foot of ‘The Strip’ to the Wynn.

This town is 24 hours and the familiar 7/14 night breaks we are used simply does not apply, I lost count of the number of ladies in wedding dresses just married who fly in & out with a day either side for fun.

Whilst visiting all the other hotels it very soon became apparent that they were very similar in the fact that they all had plenty of places to eat and drink as well as many shopping opportunities but they all had a unique selling point as well, be it a special resident show like Cirque Du Soliel or attraction like the Lion habitat at the MGM Grand. Not least they all have a casino area to relieve you of your hard earned cash.

The shows and nightlife are a main draw to Vegas and we got to see some crackers, we saw Legends at Harrahs, The Rat Pack at The Plaza (downtown) and finally ‘O’ by Cirque Du Soliel at our own hotel. Legends is like Elton john, Donna summer, Tom Jones and headlining of course the ‘King’ himself Elvis, all were excellent lookalikes but more importantly sound alikes. Downtown Las Vegas where it all began is where we headed firstly to the Plaza to see Frank Sinatra and his boys they were outstanding, we then moved on to the Fremont Street Experience which is a must for every visitor to Vegas.

Excursions are on offer on most holidays but very few can boast having one of the 7 wonders of the world on offer – The Grand Canyon absolutely breathtaking and I hate to use this word but an ‘awesome’ visual treat, getting there by light plane or helicopter though is not for the faint hearted. Another fantastic excursion is the Lake Mead and Hoover Dam tour. Voted as one of the most remarkable feats of engineering in modern times. We did the dam tour including the hydro plant as well as seeing the dam from the other side which was done in a very pleasant way on a paddle cruiser.

Las Vegas simply should be on everyone’s to do list as it has much more than gambling to offer
