Ciao Roma!

This was my first ever trip to the amazing Italian capital and it was everything I hoped it would be - and more!

The taxi ride from the airport was an experience! I had heard about the driving, but experiencing it is something else!!

Driving into the city is wonderful - weaving in and out of streets that mix modern office buildings with bits of ancient Rome! We stayed at the stunning Trevi Palace Luxury Apartments just a few steps from the awesome Trevi Fountain. Our room was spacious and clean with a balcony overlooking the street and the fridge with complementary beers, wine and soft drinks was a nice touch. Our rate included a healthy breakfast served in a delightful little room downstairs and also a complimentary massage in the spa. Our first stop was to see the Trevi Fountain. Just breath-taking! We then meandered over to the Spanish Steps before finding a little restaurant to sit outside and sample our first Roman pizzas.

It's hard to describe the perfect blend of old and new that makes Rome so unique and there was something that stopped us in our tracks virtually every time we turned a corner!

We had a lovely meal at Antica Birreiria Peroni, which has a great atmosphere. A highlight was our trip to the Vatican and felt it was well worth paying for a tour guide. We learnt so much from him as we wandered through the Vatican, Cistene Chapel and Basilica. What a truly remarkable place. Not to everyone's taste, but I really enjoyed the Time Elevator 3d movie and simulator ride that takes you on a journey back through time to ancient Rome!

There is so much to see and do in Rome that one night was not enough so I will just have to put it back on my list and go back again soon!
