Cheshire Cottage May 2021

In May 2021 we stayed in a lovely little Cottage in Betley, near Crewe in Cheshire. It was in a perfect position, the location is close to the borders of Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire with North Wales easy to drive to, which is what we did after our stay here.

The cottage was part of the owners 17th Century Coach house so had some lovely original features but with all the mod-cons you need, it was furnished to a high standard with its own little courtyard garden, which was a blessing as the week we were there was extremely hot.

The property adjoined the farmers field so the cows would come and visit us which was lovely.

The cottage was perfectly placed for going on various walks around the area, the cottage had lots of information including of all the different walks and nearby attractions. Within walking distance was a Tea Room, Village Shop and nearby were a few pubs, golf driving range and golf courses.

We wanted to visit Chester Zoo which was approx 40 mins drive from the cottage and it didn’t disappoint, we love watching the series on TV, Life at the Zoo, and it’s really well laid out, it is large and you would need all day to see it all, so allow yourself plenty of time.

Chester town is really nice, lots of historic buildings, shopping, cafes and restaurants, plus you can get out on the water and hire all sorts of boats, canoes, kayaks on the riverbank and visit the Roman Gardens.

We also visited the town of Nantwich, which has some lovely riverside walks, watching the barges moving up and down the river. Nantwich is really quaint, another historic town so well worth a mooch around on a lovely sunny day.

Trentham Estate is also nearby which is a garden with lots of different statues, you can go in search of the fairies, you walk around the mile long lake trying to spot all the Fairies along the way. This is a nice way to spend an afternoon and if you fancy a bit more shopping there are shops on-site shopping and tea shops.

The cottage is so centrally placed, there are so many places you can visit from here: Nearby attractions include Bridgemere Garden World, 15 minutes away, the Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, 20 minutes or Stoke-on-Trent with the famous potteries and the Emma Bridgewater Factory, 20 minutes. The castles of Peckferton and Cholmondeley are around 40 minutes away as is Hawkstone Follies Park. Alton Towers can be reached in around 50 minutes as well.

I would highly recommend this property as it’s such a good base from which to explore, we spent a week here and there was plenty to do in that time and also time to relax, it did help that the weather was gorgeous but even if it was raining, there is a lot to visit.
