Perfect places for LGBTQ+ travellers

In honour of Pride Month, we’re delighted to introduce Matt Carter, a Travel Counsellor who has journeyed across the globe with his partner. Matt’s experiences offer invaluable insights for LGBTQ+ travellers seeking friendly and welcoming destinations. Below, Matt shares some of the places where he has felt the most accepted and celebrated.

Perfect places for LGBTQ+ travellers

My time in Greece was nothing short of a dream come true. In Rhodes, strolling through the beautiful Old Town was enchanting, whereas Mykonos provided nights of dancing at vibrant clubs and days lounging on pristine beaches. Athens gave me the chance to explore ancient wonders steeped in rich history, and Santorini was perfect for romantic moments with stunning sunsets and charming villages. With visual representations of LGBTQ+ couples common, Greece is a heartwarming experience where everyone feels accepted and celebrated.

From serene beaches to vibrant cultural festivals, my journey in Thailand was filled with attentive hospitality. On the beaches of Phuket, I encountered warm and friendly locals and felt embraced by their open minded and accepting beliefs. In Chiang Mai, I enjoyed participating in festivals that celebrate diversity and inclusion. The combination of Thailand's rich cultural heritage and inclusive atmosphere makes it an ideal destination for LGBTQ+ travellers seeking both relaxation and adventure.

Virgin Voyages, under the Virgin brand, has always been at the forefront of supporting the LGBTQ+ community and offers a cruise experience where diversity is always celebrated. Whenever I'm on Virgin Voyages with my partner, we truly feel extremely welcome. On board, the presence of the Drag Queen ‘Diva’ added fun and fabulousness to the journey. Whether relaxing by the pool, enjoying the delightful dining options, or taking in the vibrant entertainment, Virgin Voyages ensures that everyone has fun.

My time in Miami was unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I felt exhilarated by the city's vivid and friendly atmosphere. Miami's commitment to the LGBTQ+ community is evident everywhere you go, from the colourful streets of South Beach to the artistic vibe of Wynwood Walls. I enjoyed soaking up the sun on the beautiful beaches and exploring the lively nightlife. The energy of the city, combined with the warm hospitality of the locals, made me feel right at home. With so much to do and see, not only in Miami but the surrounding areas, it truly is a must-visit.

Combining Eastern and Western influences, Hong Kong offers a dynamic and exciting range of experiences. I found it to be a city that effortlessly blends tradition with modernity, making it very unique. In Sheung Wan, intimate bars with live music and artisanal cocktails create a cosy atmosphere, while Central pulses with energy from its lively nightclubs. The contrast between the traditional and contemporary is also seen in the architecture, with towering skyscrapers sitting alongside ancient temples showcasing a skyline that is a wonder to behold. Hong Kong caters to all facets of the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring everyone finds something that resonates with them.

AMOH Rhodes is raising the bar for Greek island stays

24 April 2026

Opening in spring 2026, AMOH, A Luxury Collection Resort, Rhodes is set on a private peninsula near Lindos, with wide views across the Mediterranean and direct access to two sandy coves. It’s designed as a place to slow down and spend time well, whether that’s with family, a partner, or simply switching off for a few days. The focus is on space, privacy, and a strong sense of place, rather than overcomplicating the experience.

Spain is even better outside the summer months

24 April 2026

Spain in summer often means busy resorts, packed city centres, and temperatures that can make even short walks feel like hard work. Visiting in spring or autumn changes the pace completely. Days are still warm and bright, but without the intensity, which makes it far easier to enjoy everything from sightseeing to long, relaxed meals outdoors. You will also notice fewer queues at major attractions, more availability at popular hotels, and a general sense that you can take your time rather than plan everything around the crowds.

Beyond the beaches of Nassau & Paradise Island

24 April 2026

Nassau & Paradise Island are often associated with their beaches, but there’s much more to the destination than a typical sun holiday. It combines history, food, activities, and events in a way that makes it easy to build a varied itinerary. In 2026, there are even more reasons to visit, including the Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival at Baha Mar from 21st to 25th October.
