I’ve never really ‘got’ the Maldives. I’ve always known it was gorgeous but wouldn’t I get bored? What’s there to do there? Doesn’t it feel odd being on a small island? Well the answer is no!

I recently spent five unforgettable nights at the stunning resort LUX* South Ari Atoll in the Maldives and it truly lived up to every image you may have seen - turquoise waters, powder-soft white sand, and the kind of serenity that soothes your soul.

From the moment we landed and were whisked away by seaplane (only 25 minutes with a quick drop off on the way!), the experience felt magical. Staying in one of their iconic water villas, I woke up each day to the gentle sound of waves and uninterrupted views of the endless Indian Ocean. The villa itself was spacious, modern, and beautifully designed — think minimalist chic with every luxury you could imagine, including direct access to the crystal-clear lagoon below and a glass floor inside.

But it wasn't just the views that left a lasting impression. The service at LUX* is second to none. Every single staff member, from the front desk to the housekeeping team, greeted us with a smile and genuine warmth. It felt like being welcomed into a family — nothing was ever too much trouble, and the attention to detail made all the difference.

The food was another highlight. With multiple restaurants offering a range of cuisines — from authentic Maldivian seafood to Japanese, Italian, and even international buffets — every meal was a new adventure. I particularly loved the Indian restaurant, Senses, the wonderful buffet breakfast at Market East and of course the ice cream bar that became a daily ritual!

Beyond just relaxing (which, to be honest, you could do for days), the resort offers a fantastic mix of activities. Whether you're into water sports, diving with whale sharks, yoga at sunrise, or just enjoying a cocktail at one of their beachfront bars as the sun sets, there's something for everyone. I also appreciated the little unexpected touches — like messages in bottles hidden around the island and pop-up film screenings under the stars.

What makes LUX* South Ari Atoll truly stand out, though, is its ability to cater to every type of traveller. It’s perfect for couples seeking a romantic escape, families looking for fun and relaxation, groups of friends wanting to reconnect, or even solo travellers craving peace and inspiration. The atmosphere is laid-back yet luxurious, with a strong sense of personalized care.

By the time our five nights were up, I didn’t want to leave. It was more than just a holiday — it was an experience that will stay with me forever.
