A Dreamy Few Days In Cappadocia: Hot Air Balloons, Cave Hotels & Turkish Delights

There are some places that feel almost otherworldly, as if you have stepped straight into a dream and Cappadocia is one of them!

Amy Pettigrew on 06 Sept 2025

Think towering “fairy chimneys”, morning skies filled with hot air balloons, and beautiful cave suites carved into ancient rock. If you’re looking for a short escape that feels wildly different and easy to reach, a few days in Cappadocia could be perfect for you.

Why Cappadocia belongs on your wish list:

Perched in central Turkey, Cappadocia is a region of surreal landscapes and history. Over centuries soft rock has been sculpted by wind and water into cones, pillars and valleys that look like a film set for your favourite epic fantasy book or movie!

What makes it so special for a short break:

·         Unique accommodation: Sleep in a stylish cave hotel where your room is carved from rock, yet perfectly polished with contemporary comforts

·         Iconic balloon flights: Drift over valleys and fairy chimneys at sunrise, watch the sky fill with colour all around you and relax in the skies. If you’re not into heights, it’s still worth the early morning wake up, make a up of tea and enjoy watching them float by!

·         Rich culture: Explore underground cities, beautiful churches, a castle!, traditional villages and unwind with Turkish breakfasts, delicious coffee and fragrant tea

·         Easily combined: Cappadocia pairs beautifully with Istanbul for a city break, or the Turquoise coast for a longer Turkey itinerary

My stay at Argos Cappadocia!

For my three nights in Cappadocia I stayed at Argos Cappadocia, a beautiful cave hotel that quickly became one of the standout parts of the trip.

From the moments I arrived, the service was exceptional! The team genuinely could not do enough for you: thoughtful touches, warm conversations and a feeling that nothing was ever too much trouble. It set the tone for the entire stay.

The food here is outstanding, from leisurely breakfasts with panoramic views and a huge selection to choose from, to beautifully presented dinners that showcased local ingredients and Turkish flavours. It is the sort of place where you take your time to enjoy the food and even order a few extra side dishes because everything tastes so good.

Our room with beautiful stone walls had all the comforts you would expect from a luxury property. After time exploring the valleys, coming “home” to Argos felt so calming and I really didn’t want to leave.

How long to stay: For most travellers three to four nights is the sweet spot. I stayed for three nights and wish I’d done four nights – but you could easily stay longer if you want to cover lots off and enjoy some days relaxing by the pool or in the spa!

My dreamy three-night itinerary:

Day 1:

Arrive and settle into Argos Cappadocia. Check in, take a moment to soak up the surroundings and relax. In the evening dine at the hotel and see how good dining at Argos really is!

Day 2:

Wake up nice and early to enjoy a hot air balloon ride at sunrise or if you’d prefer, watch from the ground!

After breakfast back at Argos, head into Göreme for a coffee-making experience. Learn about Turkish coffee, how it’s prepared in the sand. It’s a great hands-on activity and a fun way to start the day.

In the afternoon relax by the pool for a few hours back at the hotel before heading out on a quad biking adventure at sunset. You’ll head out for around 2 hours, riding through the valleys as the light softens. It’s a great way to see lots of the landscape in a short time, stopping at viewpoints for photographs as the sky turns golden.

Return to the hotel dusty and happy from a fun experience, then unwind over a well-earned dinner and perhaps a glass of Argos Cappadocia’s wine from their own vineyard!

Day 3:

After a few days exploring I devoted many hours to wellness and relaxation at the Argos Cappadocia spa, before spending the afternoon outside at the pool! It was one of the best decisions of the trip!

Start with a leisurely breakfast, then wander down to the spa. I really made the most of my time here, starting with some time in the sauna and steam room before our appointment which we’d pre-booked on arrival – a Turkish Bath, face and body clay mask and a full-body foam massage! It was a dream! The traditional Turkish Bath is incredibly cleansing and rejuvenating and I really had no idea what to expect! With warm marble, steam and expert therapists to look after you, it was a great experience. The clay mask left my skin unbelievably soft and added a fun element to the pampering!

The rest of the day was about slowing down, enjoying their resting area and also the cave pool, before having a light lunch and spending the rest of the day laying by the outdoor pool which has stunning views!

Swimming pool and view

If you enjoy a spa, I’d highly recommend dedicating plenty of time to enjoy this, rather than squeezing in treatments in around other activities. It turned the trip into a nice wellness escape, not just a sightseeing break.

That evening we had pre-booked private wine tasting with Argos Cappadocia’s sommelier and wow it was amazing! We had our own private space, views across the valley and it came with a beautifully presented cheese board, dips and of course delicious wine!

Day 4:

Farewell with a promise to return!

On the final morning there was time for one last breakfast, I made sure to order all of my favourite dishes and really take in the views for one final time.

Then it was time to transfer back to the airport, feeling rested and already plotting my way to return!
