Travel Tips for Stress Free Travel
1. Pack Smart and Pack Light Overpacking is one of the most common travel mistakes. Stick to clothing you can mix and match, and aim for layers that work in different climates. For travel to hot or tropical destinations, remember you will only need light clothing and if it’s a beach holiday you will spend most of the day in your bikini! I’ve found packing cubes can also save space and keep your bag well organised.
2. Keep Essentials in Your Hand Luggage Lost luggage happens unfortunately, and if you are travelling on connecting flights there is always also a chance your luggage may not make the connection if timings are tight! Always pack a small set of essentials in your carry-on: a change of clothes, swimwear, medications (particularly important), toiletries, and phone chargers. Having these items handy will save you a lot of stress if your checked luggage takes an unexpected detour.
3. Use Technology Wisely Travel apps can be lifesavers. Download offline maps before you leave, keep digital copies of important documents (such as passport copies) in your cloud storage, and use translation apps if you’re traveling to a country where you don’t speak the language. I also check WIFI roaming rates with my phone provider before I leave, and usually end up purchasing an E-sim through an app like Airolo. Our MYTC app will also notify you of delays often before these may be announced at the gate.
4. Stay Flexible Even with careful planning, things don’t always go according to schedule. Allow for buffer time in your itinerary instead of planning back-to-back activities. Flexibility not only reduces pressure and stress but also leaves room for spontaneous discoveries—the unexpected café stop, the hidden viewpoint, or the friendly conversation with a local 😊
5. Prioritize Health and Safety Take a basic first-aid kit and stay hydrated. I have recently started taking electrolytes on trips away and find they really help, especially in hot climates. A change in environment, jet lag and food can result in “travellers tummy” so it’s always advisable to have help with you to combat that, such as Dioralyte, Immodium or Pepto Bismal – my best friend!. Always check travel advisories (FCO) before leaving for recent updates, and ALWAYS have travel insurance. A little preparation can help you handle small issues before they become big ones.
Travel is meant to be exciting, not overwhelming. By packing thoughtfully, planning ahead, and keeping an open mind, you’ll be set for a trip that’s memorable for all the right reasons. After all, the less time you spend worrying, the more time you have to enjoy the journey.
