Pembrokeshire Coast Sep 2024

In September 4 of us stayed in North Pembrokeshire for a week.

We stayed in a Luxury Hot Tub Lodge overlooking Fishguards Bay, it had a panoramic outlook from the lounge over the water, which was lovely. It was open plan with 2 bedrooms and a balcony with the hot tub on it. Unfortunately when sitting on the balcony, the shrubs in front of your balcony blocks the view of the water but there are other lodges on the park with clear views.

From the park itself you can walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with the most amazing views of beaches, sheer cliff faces and clear blue waters. The first day we walked along to the Sailors Safety Pub which was circa 7 miles total, it took 2.5 hours out because we were taking photos and exploring beaches but on the way back it only took 1.5 hours. The walk is mostly a narrow trail of grass and in wet weather could be muddy, with some inclines and declines so I would recommend walking poles if you have them. We didn’t bring ours and were fine but in wetter weather they would be beneficial.

We could see the Irish ferry come into Fishguard Harbour from the lodge and on a clear day you can see for miles out to sea.

We drove to St Davids City which is the smallest city in Britain and the cathedral grounds were amazing. We went inside and it is huge, nice little town to walk around too.

Popped over to Whitesands Bay on the way back to have an explore on the beach, then back through Goodwick to walk the sea wall, where dolphins and basking sharks can sometimes be seen, but not for us unfortunately.

During our week we visited the southern part of the Pembrokeshire Coast and visited Barafundle Bay, a beautiful secluded beach which takes 20 minutes to walk to across the cliff top, again with stunning views.

Other beaches we visited were Saundersfoot, Tenby, Tresaith Beach, which has a waterfall flowing from it, which is amazing and Broad Haven South Beach – this is a large beach which connects to other walks as well - this is one of the best beaches in the area!

As well as beaches we took in the amazing scenery at Green Bridge of Wales, St Govans Chapel, set in the side of the cliff and Stack Rocks.

We didn’t manage to see The Cauldron as the military base you have to go through was shut with live firing, so you have to consider the opening times when you want to visit.

We also drove to Cenarth Falls, which has a lovely boardwalk alongside the river, plus the quaint little Deli and Gift shop in the town, it’s a pretty area.

In Haverfordwest, we ate out at an Indian Restaurant in the evening and I have to say it was probably the best Indian I have ever had, its called the Seven Spices in Market Street.

It really is a stunning part of the country and I would highly recommend a visit and if you have a dog, it is a really dog friendly place to be. Just be prepared for all weathers and you will be fine.
