Molyvos - a taste of Greece

A week on the island of Lesvos

Despite travelling a lot and visiting a lot of countries the islands of Greece are still somewhere I need to explore a little more, a good friend of mine has returned to the town of Molyvos on the island of Lesvos a few times so when we were looking for a week at half term we decided to give this a try

We opted for the Aphrodite Hotel, a four star property about 20 minutes walk from the town and it was a fabulous choice, on its own beach with a Taverna overlooking the sea  and a good sized swimming pool.  We opted for bed and breakfast, you can choose half-board, and the food in the Taverna is superb,  but I think you would be missing out on the lovely restaurants dotted around the town and a little further afield.  The staff at the hotel were just lovely and I can see why guests return year after year.

As a family , we were in need of some relaxation and the hotel really offered this, as it is a little walk from the town then it is  lovely and quiet for a day around the pool and grabbing a quick bite at the Taverna.

However, as we opted to hire a car from the airport rather than a transfer we had the option to head out during the day too and had a great day at the nearby beaches of Petra and Anaxos.  Both  gorgeous beaches and flanked by a few tavernas for the perfect day out by the coast.

We also headed over the hills to the most beautiful little village of Skala Sikamineas, it could be straight out of Mama Mia and definitely worth the drive.  A few little  shops and the most perfect setting for a typical Greek Lunch but if you want to spend a little longer it does have its own beach to while a few hours away.

Molyvos itself is just beautiful, a small village that is overlooked by a castle at the top of the village, lost of cobbled street meandering down from the castle to the water dotted with local restaurants and lovely shop to potter around.  You can wander down further down to the harbour where there are a scattering of more bars and restaurants.  Molyvos has everything you need from a small Greek Village, I imagine during the summer months that it will be buzzing, whilst retaining original charm.

I can totally see why it has many many return visitors, a total hidden gem.

So after a week on this beautiful island, I totally see why Greece is always a good idea.
