Glorious October Sun: My Four-Night Escape to Majorca

Collette Howse on 28 October 2025
As the autumn leaves began to fall at home, I was fortunate to enjoy a slice of late sunshine on the beautiful island of Majorca. My four-night stay at the end of October was nothing short of rejuvenating – a reminder that this Balearic gem remains wonderfully inviting even as summer fades.

Effortless Travel Connections My journey began with an early flight from Birmingham, made all the more seamless by an overnight stay at the Hilton Garden Inn conveniently located within walking distance of the airport terminal. If you’re considering a similar journey, I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel for its comfortable rooms, warm service, and excellent restaurant. Portions were generous and prices surprisingly reasonable, especially for an airport setting.

Smooth Arrival and a Pleasant Surprise After a short flight, I whisked through the new European arrival procedures – which, I’m pleased to report, were quick and straightforward. With only hand luggage in tow, I found myself in a taxi from Palma Airport and checking into my hotel in Santa Ponsa within an hour of landing. Effortless!

Tranquil Luxury at Iberostar Selection Jardín del Sol Suites, Santa Ponsa. My haven for this trip was the adult-only Iberostar Selection Jardín del Sol Suites, perched dramatically on a rocky bay and offering sunsets to rival Santorini and Key West. The hotel is architecturally striking: you enter at the top and descend by lift to beautifully appointed suites, each boasting uninterrupted sea views from private balconies or terraces (some with their own hot tubs for the ultimate indulgence).

My spacious room came stocked with a coffee machine, fridge, and tea-making facilities, perfect for a quiet morning enjoying the ocean panorama. All accommodation categories deliver a high standard – location and extras like hot tubs tend to be the main differentiators.

Thoughtful Amenities and Relaxed Atmosphere My all-inclusive package meant every meal was taken care of – from bountiful buffet breakfasts to delicious, varied dinners. If visiting in high season, I’d suggest upgrading to the Prestige Level for access to additional pools and exclusive bars, but in October the ambience was pleasantly tranquil, with ample space to relax, read, or simply soak up the views.

The hotel also features a rejuvenating spa, an indoor pool, a well-equipped gym, and a sociable lounge area with pool and darts. Evenings brought gentle live music – the perfect soundtrack for an adults-only retreat built around rest and restoration. For the active, the clear bay below is ideal for snorkelling and paddleboarding.

Exploring Santa Ponsa & Captivating Palma Santa Ponsa’s lively town centre is within walking distance, dotted with bars and restaurants for those wishing to venture out. One highlight of my trip was a day visit to the wonderfully atmospheric Palma. A taxi cost around €35 each way and gave me the freedom to explore the city’s grand cathedral, meandering lanes, and tempting boutiques. Palma is a compelling destination in its own right, perfect for a future city break.

Why Majorca in Autumn? If you’re looking for warmth, tranquillity, and an island escape just a short flight from the UK, Majorca in October is a delight. I spent my days reading, playing cards, and enjoying unhurried meals – the ideal tonic before winter sets in.
