Captivating Canadian Rockies

Captivating Canadian Rockies

One of my favourite things to do is road tripping and there is nowhere better than the Canadian Rockies!

I had a Rockies round up for 7nights in May a few years ago. Starting in Vancouver and ending in Calgary, stopping of in whistler, Kamloops, Jasper and Banff

I flew from Dublin with Air Canada in their premium economy cabin and the service could not be faulted. We arrived refreshed and ready to collect our rental car. Vancouver

We stayed our first two nights close to downtown and Stanley Park. What a City. We had a busy couple of days as we had so much to fit in My Attraction highlights 1. Stanley Park: Take time to walk or cycle the seawall and enjoy fantastic view of English Bay, also don’t miss the totem poles. 2. Granville Island: Take a water taxi to Granville island and experience the public market and perhaps the foodie tour 3. Capilano Suspension Bridge: thrill seekers check out the cliff walk

Whistler An hour and 40 minutes’ drive from Vancouver took us whistler on the Sea to Sky highway, the scenery already dramatically changing as we started this breath-taking road trip. One of the largest ski resorts in North America with an abundance of outdoor activity all year round whistler is a thrill seekers playground

My Attraction Highlight

Zipline adventure: Zipline your way from the top of a mountain back down to the village, for breath-taking views of whistler forest, filling your lungs with the freshest air.

Whistler to Kamloops When we left whistler we took highway 99 via Lake Duffy. We wanted to take our time and enjoy the drive and the scenery. We set off after breakfast and took our time getting to Kamloops. We wanted to make sure we didn’t miss seeing any wildlife or photography opportunities. Allow approx. 7 hours more if you want to stop and soak up the great outdoors On arrival in Kamloops, we dropped the bags headed for dinner and got to bed ready for an early start the next day.

Kamloops to Jasper Again we set off straight after breakfast, so much to see so little time. There are lots of villages, viewing areas, lakes and rivers. Keeping an eye out for any wildlife. We arrived late into Jasper so it was dark and had to pull over to give an elk right of way. I can laugh about it now.

Jasper to Banff After a flying visit to Jasper (I really would recommend more time) we set off for Banff via the Icefields Park way. This drive is shorter but we wanted to stop at the Columbia Icefield, in the heart of Jasper National Park. One of the highlights of my trip. We took a trip on the ice explorer to the top of the Athabasca Glacier. What an experience. Not to mention the views from the skywalk. Absolutely unforgettable.

We spent out last couple of nights in Banff and exploring Banff National Park. The beautiful Lake Louise is a 30 Minute drive from Banff, we visited from Banff but with more time I would have loved to stay in the Chateau Lake Louise with its amazing views over the turquoise Lake.

Banff National park has so much to offer, and the town itself is so picturesque. We took time to enjoy the village shops bars and restaurants and even took a visit to the Banff springs after a long My attraction highlights 1. Definitely the Columbia Icefield on route to Banff 2. Banff Gondola. Then Gondola take you to the top of Sulphur Mountain, soak in the views of the turquoise lakes and the steep peaks of Banff national park. 3. Guided wildlife tour. We wanted to be sure our tour was guided in case I couldn’t get the bear spray out in time. We dropped our car back at Calgary airport and flew with Air Canada Via Toronto home. We had the most amazing trip, if you would like me to plan yours, I would be delighted to help.
