One Marrakech, Many Journeys
Discover your own unforgettable version of Marrakech
I have worked on three trips to Marrakech recently, and none of them looked the same.
✨ A couple whisking their elderly parents away: comfort and culture, characterful accommodation, a gentler pace and the key sights close by
✨ A wellness weekend for two friends: a little luxury, spa time and poolside lounging, but still close enough to the Medina for souks, cafés and rooftop bars
✨ An adventure escape: trekking in the High Atlas Mountains, time in Berber villages and that wonderful feeling of being out in wild, open landscapes.
That is exactly what I love about this magical, shape-shifting city: - it meets every traveller differently.
Felix and I were lucky enough to spend a week in Marrakech ourselves last year and we completely fell under its spell. We stayed in a beautiful riad, stepping straight from a quiet courtyard into the colour and buzz of the Medina. Our tour of the souks was a real highlight - not just the tourist stalls, but a wonderful maze of everyday life, tiny workshops and local traders, where you feel the city breathing around you.
Away from the city, we went on a small group tour, walking in the Atlas Mountains. It was one of those special days that really stays with you - following paths between terraced fields, then stopping for lunch with a Berber family - simple home-cooked food, warm hospitality and stories about life in the mountains turned our walk into a genuine connection.
Another standout memory was our time in the Agafay Desert. It is not the classic golden dunes of the Sahara, but a beautiful, stony wilderness with wide horizons and huge skies. We took a camel ride across the rocky landscape as the light softened, then watched the sun melt into the hills, that magical in-between time when the desert cools and the first stars appear.
Back in the city, an evening food tour showed us a different side of Marrakech again - tiny local spots we would never have found alone, fragrant tagines, fresh breads straight from the oven, sweet pastries and mint tea shared at little plastic tables as the city hummed around us.
If I had to choose a favourite place, it would be somewhere I do not feel gets nearly enough attention - the Madrasa Ben Youssef. Stepping into its intricate courtyards and quiet corners feels like slipping into another world. The craftsmanship, the geometry, the layers of history - it is a place to slow down, look closely and really feel the soul of Marrakech beyond the headline sights.
For me, that sums up Marrakech: one city, countless journeys.
Blending my own first-hand experience with trusted local partners means every itinerary can be exciting, personal and completely unique to the person travelling. Whether you are dreaming of hammams and rooftop cocktails, mountain trails and Berber hospitality, or souks and street food after dark, there is a version of Marrakech that is just right for you.
